Default Is UWORLD enough?

Do I have to read MTB 3, or is UWORLD enough to get a good score?

Thanks

uworld and preparing well for the CCS should be enough. i read mtb, but just like on step 2ck... it didnt contribute to my step 3 score.

yea, i know the feeling. its easy to talk in hindsight, but the fact of the matter is that i didnt cut it out myself. its really not easy to let go of book that almost everyone says is important or the exam.

on forums there is a lot of misleading information.... and recommendations that i just cant understand. how so many ppl suggest mtb is beyond me. but looking at the positive reviews for this book Internal Medicine Correlations and Clinical Scenarios, kinda gives me an idea of whats going on. its easy to see that many people who left good reviews didnt even read it and are just trying to promote it.

i did the entire kaplan qbank. at moments it feels like its worth it, but the amount of low quality questions quickly reminds you that your time and money has been wasted. even worse, however, is when an explanation conflicts with uworld... thats just frustrating.

its very tempting to sign up to another qbank to get extra practice... but instead of kaplan, i recommend checking out uworld's other qbanks (e.g., family practice for step 3).

agree it is very important if we can find another good q-bank for extra practice because more questions you do more knowledge you gain as each one ca be different. I did not find Kaplan good though...agree with Kruno that it has number of low quality questions.
I would suggest Archer Q-bank at www.usmlestep3blog.com . These questions are very high quality but what I do not like is that they have not posted answers to all questions. Does anyone know or have answers for these? They are free questions

Can anyone comment on usefulness of USMLE Step 3 Secrets? Very few reviews available. They have some video CCS presentations on youtube that seem OK.

I think MTB is overrated mostly because it's short and easy read that is enough for AMGs to get a passing score on step 2CK and step 3. Because AMGs have very limited prep time available and don't care as much about high scores on these tests. But it is indeed very shallow and gets outdated as well.

Kaplan Q bank is a good alternative even though it has not been updated. MTB3 is excellent. add mapping ccs it will help you. their web is mappingccs.com

Hi
U world is the most important thing in step 3,but MTB will improve your score little up(20 % ) depending on how much you retain it.CCS is most important component to focus for passing Step 3.
Best Regards,
Sarah

world class advice right there..... up to 20%? there might be something on the exam that's found in the book, but its most likely something easy that you already knew. from my experience, the mtb books were totally useless. if you decide to use mtb, please comment on how much it actually helped you.

uworld is the best source for questions, but not for ccs. archer is way better there. as for other qbanks, my second favorite was a book called Family Practice Examination and Board Review. on uworld, the family medicine qbank is also good. in general, stick with the best sources, because second or third rate qbanks, such as usmlerx and kaplan respectively, are more of a waste of time than they are beneficial.

Star UWorld enough?

That is a good question. I think it offers a great "base" for the test, but I think other options could contribute a good bit. Step 2 CK Secrets, Step Up, Kaplan are all good options. I just wouldn't take it lightly. Also depends on your experience, if you take it as a rising intern vs a 3rd year medicine resident, either would make a key differences.

Default CCS has it all!

I agree....CCS is extremely important guys. This is where we have best chance. I actually was viewing one of Archer video where he analyzes various score reports of students with multiple failures and shows graphs comparing pre-CCS vs. post-CCS 3 digit scores. The three digit scores really jump more than you expect once CCS performance bar moves toward right ( above average), this reduces our burden on MCQs. I think that hits the bull eye ...if we did really well on CCS, losing a decent number of imp or tough MCQs would not matter much.
For CCS, practice is so important. Archer CCS is very helpful for this as he demonstrates most important cases on FRED USMLE software. UW CCS software good for initial start but there are differences between UW and real exam FRED software. WE take exam on FRED software so make sure you practice on FRED several times using Archer protocols. You can't go wrong with CCS.
