Question What Score is needed for Step 3?

Hi everyone,
My plan is to apply for residency in July 2014. I have already passed Step 2 (CS AND CK) and I am taking the Step 1 hopefully in August or September. After that I have time to prepare for Step 3 before my application next year, However, I heard that Step 3 is very tricky and you may get a bad score in it. Please let me know whether I can take it before my application or it is better to do that after interviews.
