Question USMLE Step 3 Eligibility Period

Hi all,

I am still stuck with my ECFMG verification due to delay from my medical school part and i m hoping it to be done end July or August 1st week.

So my question is if i apply for step 3 right after getting ECFMG CERTIFICATION, lets say in August, can i still apply and get the date for step 3 in END WEEK OF AUGUST??? I m concern because we don't have a choice on eligibility period right??

Thank you!

Your eligibility period of 90 days will start once your application is complete & is processed by FSMB (usually within a week). You will receive your scheduling permit & you can give your exam at ANYTIME the prometric centres are open i.e. barring the first two weeks of Jan. The application for Step 3 has a deadline of 31st August, but not for when you can give it.

Hope that helps!

I haven't done it yet but my senior told me that any public notary will be fine for it. Either in US or your home country.

If u r in US, u can do in nearby UPS store, they notorizes ur certificates for 2.5$ per certificate.

So did I understand correctly that by 1st week of August if I get permit card, can I schedule it from 2nd week of August or the eligibility pd starts from sept?

In case if we have to extend our eligible pd, can we do that as in other steps?

Yes! Your eligibility period will start as soon as you receive your permit. So you can schedule it on prometric asap, subject to availability.

And yes you can request a one time extension to this too by paying 65$.
