Default CCS case template

Hello,

I have created a sample CCS template for office and ER cases. I primarily watched archer video's and just put it together based on what i heard/saw. Just an attempt to have some sort of guide. Also, since i will be re taking my exam, i just wanted to make sure to pass.

If you have already taken your test and did well in CCS portion then any suggestions/advice etc will be highly appreciated. Also, If you are studying for this test then feel free to make suggestions because i might have missed something.

Anyway, thank you!

Default Question

Do you think Archer videos are helping when comparing to having taken the exam and having that first-hand experience? Do you feel Archer cases could have helped had you done it the first time? Not being offensive in any way. Thanks for the document!

I mean hindsight is 20/20 so i am not 100% sure. But i'll say this: I made alot of silly mistakes that i didn't realize i was making and just failed to pay attention or recognize that it can be a problem. Especially while doing UW CCS cases.

1) I always advanced the clock by choosing "next result" and this is a waste of time because especially in the ER cases, i should choose to advance the clock by 10 minutes or until i get the lab report that i need to order the next thing (i.e did head ct and then need LP).

2) I have always ordered more comprehensive labs. For example, i have always ordered Chem 14( 2 hr turn around) instead of a BMP (30 min). So this is another place where i wasnt efficient and lost points even though patient got better.

3) Archer mentioned to NOT advance the clock passively. Meaning since you have to advance the clock might as well do it by going back and finishing the physical and move it that way. this way, you can kill 2 birds with one stone instead of moving the block (without ordering any thing) and then going back to doing the physical exam. Not sure if that makes sense...So stuff like this was probably scored lower due to not being efficient. So even though most of my patients got better, i just could have scored alot higher by being more efficient. So this kinda makes me feel better because i guess i figured out some things to avoid and to work on. I always ordered PA/lateral chest xray.. I guess never realized the time frame..and now i know that portable chest xray comes back alot faster than PA/Lateral...

So things like this made my approach/management less efficient resulting in lower score all around…..So I didn’t bomb any CCS case but rather I wasn’t efficient in my management which led to lower score on each case. I think based on mistakes that I realized.

But i can't be sure and this just creates more anxiety because can't fail twice.

Help

Great! sounds to me Archer is the solution for CCS apart from Uworld/Mapping. In addition, looking back at Day 1. How would you prepare differently? I keep seeing stories about uworld doesn't help, etc. But, people still end up getting through it. I assume you did Kaplan Qbank, would you recommend that based on Day 1 experience at first-hand? I guess I am not sure how to go beyond what I am already doing - Uworld bank, MTB 2 - which has CK notes, Uworld ck notes. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Well, in all honesty i am not sure how someone can prepare for day 1 because content is so damn random. That said, I am planning to spend couple of full days (hopefully soon) to go through First aid step 1 and focus on various drugs/mechanisms + micro. I mean i am not sure what else you can do.

As far as kaplan question bank goes, it's okay. I primarily used it because prior to falling, i had done UW ( 1st pass then incorrects. Then reset and then incorrects. While reviewing 2nd time, i marked about 700 questions because they presented with important content and or area where i suck at. After that, i marked about another 200 and then marked another 100. I was just trying to distill and just focus on questions i was missing at). Also, i created about 900 flashcards from UW and reviewed them every night and was able to get through them 5-8 times. So i really hammered UW.

So, i exhausted uw but it is still the best resource available. So i did kaplan (its okay) and now going thru uw just to review. I don't think Kaplan q bank would help for day 1. Unless you want to do Kaplan for step 1.

I am not sure what else you can do. But i am doing UW step 2 for pediatrics and neurology because these were my weakest areas along with CCS. And UW step 3 doesn't have enough peds question.

So i am not sure. I just purchased CCS mapping because well, i can't fail again. So really trying to ace ccs portion. But i am not sure at all.

Also (just thought of this), perhaps doing first aid question for step 1. Reason because first aid q bank, you can pick and choose and do only HY questions. Again, not sure how useful that will be.

One more thing. Do whatever you have for Biostats. I did UW step 1, uw step 2, uw step 3, uw biostats course and skimmed thru kaplan 2013 notes for biostats.

I did okay in biostats and felt it was okay on the real thing. However, i struggled with abstracts and if i remember it correct, i just saved it for the very end and just tried but it didn't go anywhere so i ended up guessing. So not sure my decent performance on biostats was due to poor abstract prep. Not sure
