Question Why are people not taking Step 3?

hey, on IMG Match forum I read at the credentials that many applicants do not plan to sit for step 3 before Match day. why is that? I dont need the visa either but already applied, scheduled for November, really dont feel like studying..BUT I saw programs requiring it by the time of rank order listing! so I am happy to have applied in time...
any opinion?

Step 3 is a double-edged weapon.

If you pass with a good score then it will help your match application but if you fail it then it will hurt your application.

Therefore, if you don't feel like preparing for it (specially the stress of the match itself is enough) then it might be a good idea to leave it until after the match. I don't know any residency program that requires Step 3 before ranking (unless you need H1B Visa).

But do not procrastinate when you get matched, it's highly recommended you do it before starting residency as you will be very busy during residency and you won't have time for it.

depends a lot on individual credentials...if someone has high scores in step1 n CK..taking step 3 is a risk because an average or slightly above average score in step3 will make the application less attractive..there is absolutely no program that 'requires' individuals to take step3 before ROL unless the applicant wants a H1b visa...i've gone through more than 200 programs' requirements and i never saw step 3 as a requirement for any non-visa requiring candidate...
btw, what are ur credentials? if u don't mind me asking..
