what is the better diagnostic test for ankylosing spondylitis?

X ray is the best initial test and used as well to monitor disease activity along with ESR. MRI is the most accurate test because it detects changes far in advance than xrays. But usually xray along with other findings is enough for the diagnosis.

but if u see in mtb3 as i understand mri is preferred over x ray
n usmle world recommends x ray before mri
n if we have to check prognosis should we see mri or x ray

Best initial step will always be xrays
If negative and strong suspicion then do MRI
Prognosis is checked with MRI
