Default Step 3 Prep

Hello Everybody!! how y'all been? This is my very 1st post in the STep 3 forum, so my question might sound a little dumb.

Can somebody please tell me what books/materials to use for step 3? And how long does the prep typically take? What I know is MTB3 and UWorld. Is that all we need?

Also, I'm an IMG(hoping for an H1 visa), planning to apply this september. SO by when should I have my Step 3 resluts to be on the safe side? ANy advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi man, welcome to the step 3 forum.. Hopefully you will have a good time here..

There are several ways to study for this exam depending on the score you want and the amount of time you are planning to invest in your studies...

Several people go with the MTB3 + uworld +CCs cases and only study that.

I will share my study plan with you which is a little bit more complex.

  • I have started by doing archer high yield review.. almost done with all the lectures.
  • I will start Kaplan Qbank Next week on friday.. will do it random/timed twice and will revise the links that are there with MTB3.
  • Then I will do Kaplan lecture notes and watch the corresponding DVD's this I will do in 1 month max..
  • I will then do Uworld in 2 weeks or less. the plan is to also do this twice.. just like in Step 1 and Step 2 CK.
  • Then I will subscribe to Uworld CCS cases and will do Archer CCS review course.. this I will leave for the last month of prep (August) so that im really fresh.
I plan to take the exam in the second week of september... IF you are planning to apply for the J1 visa you should do the exam during the last days of august all the way to september.. so that programs can see that you have everything and that gives you an Edge

Happy studying!

I have only used Kaplan Qbank on step 2 ck and had a nice experience..

IN step 3 I do it mainly to have more questions to practice and because a lot of them are written by Conrad Fischer.. and also because some questions have direct links to MTB3 so that you can see from where they took the question.. thats the only reason i'm doing it..

Also step 3 qbanks combined have like 2200 questions (that is if you add Uworld and Kaplan) which is what only a qbank would have on both step 1 and 2 CK.. so again.. I do it to have more questions to practice.

Archer is a PPV course.. google it.

Thanks for the reply Xapez .. I think i'll stick to MTB3, UW and CCS. . Did you do any observership/externship? I'm trying to find one (dunno how) but i guess I'll have to squeeze that in before august too
