Hi!
Can anyone tell me how long it took from the point of applying to FSMB to actually being able to take Step 3?
Thank you

First, application for Step 3; currently, it is state medical board sponsored so you have to pick up a state. Finish online application form and a hard copy of application form with notary seal. Send it out and wait for its approval. Once it is approved, you will expect the permit quite soon, usually within 10 business days after you recieved the approval email.

Default permit for step 3

thank you, I appreciate it.
Do you need any kind of documents from your medical school for step 3?
I'm asking because I'm trying to keep everything ready so I can expedite the process.

I just applied for Step 3 and took the exams quite recently. By recalling the procedure, I did not remember that I need any further documents; actually the application and approval for step 3 is much easier than registration and credential verification when you initially start your USMLE through ECFMG. The requirement is that you must have ECFMG certificate, which means that you passed all tests in Step 1 and Step 2. Sometimes, the approval of Step 3 takes longer time due to a lot of reasons. But after that step, you can have your permit quite soon.
