Don't be lazy, rapidly prepare yourself for step 3 and make your life easy before you start forgetting the stuff. It will not take you more than 2 months. But actually if you study with full concentration, it will not take you more than one and half month.

Yes MTB or the stuff you studied for ck and UW are enough for step 3. As you are fresh with ck, I don't think you need mtb. Just do UW both MCQs and CCS cases of UW and go for the exam.

welcome psonis & sndhgrvr

most advice to start UW side by side with MTB from the beginning and am starting to do so

about the videos some used it and others found it time consuming i will suggest to you to start and with time if u felt that some topics are deficient or you want more clarification on it use the videos .... for me i prefer always reading than watching but it is different from one person to another

Thanks Emmy24.
I was wondering if you know which archer videos for ccs are advisable to subscribe? There are 2 or 3 types there.

Hello everybody!

I am also planning to take Step 3 soon. I don't know exactly when...I am hoping April, but with the Match waiting, it can be really hard to study these days.

I took Step 2 Ck in July 2013 (250 score). I have started doing UW QBank. I am done with around 75% of the questions and the average is 67%. I am doing them unused, random, tutor mode. After I am done with the QB I will start the UW cases.

I also need a little bit of motivation since I am loosing a lot of my time. Good luck to people who are waiting for the Match results

I'm finally done with the steps!!!

I just finished my second day of Step 3 and I have to say the MCQs are quite hard specially the first day, but the CCS was fine.. I've prepared myself for 3 weeks with just MTB3 and UW for the MCQs and Archer and UW for the CCS cases and I think it's enough if you got 240+ on your CK.. This exam is more about how you would manage real life cases and I was often in dilemma between two options in several questions, but I don't think that if I've studied hard for another month it would change much.. Thank god, there's always a good amount of knee jerk questions and MTB3 and UW were helpful in those.. Also, beware of your time, I guessed a lot of abstract/drug ads questions due to lack of time, so leave them to the end..

Finally, I just need to pass, so anything above 190 for me is fine.. If you for some reason need a high score, I can't help you with that, sorry.. Let's pray and wait for the results!

Help

i wasnt able to post my last few days study, but i just gave my exam. It is a tiring and tough exam, but not so scary, lots of people have over exaggerated it. Its partly our attitude towards the exam has changed too. We are not so desperate as we were for the rest of the exams I guess. I will post my experience soon.

about 8-10 hours/day

I already started with Kaplan Qbank + MTB 3. Next week will do UW MCQ. In some weeks will do Archers CCS + UW CCS. ...and then NBME or UWSA. Will see.
By the way, I took CK not too long (February 3, 2014).

Good luck.

Hi!!! I'm in the same study plan as you. I'm doing Kaplan qbank + MTB 3 right now. Then, UW in a couple of weeks. Let's keep in touch!

Hi!

I finished doing UW MCQ with a 67% percentage and I am planning to start the UW CCS, but I don't know what is the best way to handle the cases. SHould I go first and read the all the UW 41 CCS and then do the UW practice cases? Is Archer video a mandatory tool for this exam? Also, I am planning to take my exam in a month. Is this doable?

Thanks!

Correct Answer

Archer is a long video, he drags things way too much. I did those during travelling on metro. It would certainly give you a platform to go about on things. Not a must though. Do the UW ccs on the software, reading the 41 cases didnt help me much.

Good luck!

Hi! Thank you glutamate for your quick answer....I read a couple of cases from the read out material and then I started doing the practical cases. It seems to me that the practical ones are easier compared to the first ones. I was wondering how are the ones in the real exam?

Thanks!

Can't comment about the real thing, but I felt I was very well prepared for the CCS after UW Program CCS (2x) and about 10 archer cases (Get super bored and I think it gets repetitive, don't need to watch the full videos, just take a look at how he manages some difficult cases like DKA, PE, etc).. I didn't use the extra 40-something cases of UW..

My Main TIP, think twice, thrice before ordering any invasive procedure.. Don't worry if your 20 minute cases end before 10 minutes, I think it's common..

It may be little hard to focus on step 3 if you do not know what they are testing frequently and if you do not know easy tricks that can make you pass. One shortcut route to pass is CCS and easy way is to do the best on CCS.
Archer CCS has the best strategies for CCS, UW is good to practice but does not direct you on strategies so, learn Archer thoroughly and then practice on UW CCS software. There are 40 hours in archer ccs videos, even if you 20 hours time it's highly worth it.
Motivation is hard but when you know concepts, you get motivated as MCQ q bank averages start rising rapidly when you learn deep concepts underlying step 3 questions. One of the best methods to get indulged in Step 3 preparation is to start with lectures that explain concepts, motivates you to learn by explaining easy. Best so far I found is Archer 36 hour lecture series , finishing them took me only about 2 weeks. Then I have been doing UW Qank and NBME , my averages are in 75% range, concepts are much clearer now and preparation has become very interesting and playful.

Learn concepts, that is the only way to get the kick out of step 3 prep. Good luck to you

Hey guys! How is your preparation going?

I just took UW self assessment and scored 239. I think the questions were long and difficult, so I often had to read the last question very fast and pick an answer. I was wondering if the real exam is the same.

Also, how predictive is the self assessment, because I know that CCS can influence the score a lot, right?

Does the Step 3 score matter in any way if I already have a residency position? I was thinking if I will apply for fellowship after the ObGYn residency.

Thank you and I am waiting for your input
