Default Step 3 experience for dummies ! :)

By the Grace of Almighty, I passed.

I have always found this forum very helpful for my preparation of step1 , CK, CS and Step 3. Recently I took my Step 3 Exam and cleared it with 216. First, I am pleased that I passed the exam. Secondly, I was a bit sad cz I was hoping for 220+ (as humans we are never satisfied with our performance). But praise to Allah, I passed and that is all that matters !

Total Study time: 4/5 months, 3-5 hrs/day

Study materials:
UWORLD 3X (online)
UWORLD CCS 3X(online)
Kaplan Qbank 1X
Mtb 2 Medicine and Psych 1X (SKYPE PARTNER )
Mtb 3 gynae and Peds 1X (Skype )
Kaplan Peds 1X (superficial reading)> Skype
Biostats and Epidemiology (Step 1 Video Lectures)

Exam:

50% Uworld, 50% Luck and your updated Knowledge base

Day 1: Research Abstract every block. You dont have time. You should developed the habit of quickly scanning the questions and picking the relevant points. Answering should not take more than 10 seconds. I was not able to read 4 questions on day one and blindly answered them.

Day 2: 4 blocks of MCQs. Comparatively easier than Day 1. 35 Questions in each block. I was not able to read 3 questions on day 2 and blindly answered them.

CCS: Cases are not easy. 2-3 cases are difficult and test your medical knowledge. The rest of the cases were straightforward. Focus more on CCS as they can help you Pass this horrible exam. Read practice cases of UWORLD CCS too. You should know how to manage common conditions. I was able to finish the exam at 3 o clock.

My Advice: Solve as many questions as you can. I would not spend much time reading MTB and other irrelevant stuff. The game is about your question solving ability. You need to be quick. Dont waste time on thinking too much on the question. If you dont know the answer, you dont know the answer!! Period!!! Just select the best option and move on. Trust your instinct and this trust must develop while solving UWORLD.
Dont waste a second on the questions you dont know. Dont waste time with a study partner reading MTBs. Buy online Uworld and start solving 2-3 blocks per day!

Good Luck.

Keep few things in mind
1- Step 3 will be reported as Pass/Fail (if i am not wrong).
2- Reporting time will be an issue.

If i am wrong and you will get digits as scores, then I will recommend that you study hard and get marks. Regarding reporting time, try to get the results before september, 2014.

SCHEME: Begin by Buying Online Uworld. Finish it as soon as possible.
