Idea! How to Download YouTube Videos

A member of this forum has been desperately looking for a proper way to download Youtube Videos into his PC. I vowed to help him and I decided to share my trick with our lovely USMLE Forums friends and visitors.

Before I tell you how to do it let me tell you why saving Youtube videos to your PC or Mac might be a good idea. Because initially I had no idea why that is important.

Here are the three most important reasons:
  1. Sometimes medical education companies and individuals attract their audiences by posting free Youtube videos but then later on when they grow famous they remove those videos and start to ask you money to watch those clips.
  2. Often, Youtube contains copyright protected videos uploaded by people. After a while when the copyright holder notices the video and informs Youtube they immediately remove it and you won't be able to see it anymore.
  3. Sometimes, your Internet connection is not always great. So you want to save the video in your local drive so that then you can view it offline. Or for example you copy it to your mobile and then you watch it on the go without the need for paying for very expensive mobile internet connection.
Now, how to do it..

If you search Google for "how to save youtube videos" they'll probably send you to keepvid or yousave websites. These websites are not reliable and their servers often crashes because of the thousands of requests per second. They also bother you with frequent interrupting advertisements and sometimes ask you to buy a software to do the job.

Here's the Free, Easy, and Reliable way

First of all you have to use Firefox browser. If you are not using Firefox browser then probably it's the time to make the best technology decision of your life. Ask all the computer experts and they'll tell you that Firefox is better than Internet Explorer or any other browser.

To download your free copy of Firefox go to www.firefox.com and download the latest version.

The beauty of Firefox is that you can customize it the way you like with thousands of add-ons that increase your productivity and simplify the way you interact with the Internet.

Now, once you have installed Firefox in your PC or Mac. Go to this page
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10137

It's a Youtube Video Download Add on that will make downloading Youtube videos easier than you ever thought.

Once the add-on is installed you'll see a new download buttons right below the embed link as circled below;
Clicking on these download buttons will let you download in the formats mentioned. FLV is the smallest memory requiring of all of them but it requires a special FLV player to be viewed. All other formats can play easily in your Windows Media Player or Real Player or Quick Time Player.

Enjoy
