Kaplan Medical Kaplan Score Estimator

One of the differentiating features of Kaplan qbank over USMLE World is the availability of a score estimator.

So no need for speculation and no need to listen to other students in attempting to predict the USMLE score

This score estimator is reliable and precise with 16 points +/- error and it's generated from the thousands of students who have taken both the Kaplan qbank and the real USMLE exam.

Here's some correlation examples using Kaplan Score Estimator
Kaplan 50% will get you 211/88 in USMLE
55 --- 219/90, 60 --- 227/94, 65 --- 234/97, 70 --- 242/99, 75 --- 250/99

And here's how it looks on the computer screen

Default Kaplan Score Estimator

Yah, that's correct Kaplan has made a great job in providing us with the estimator but I have two critiques about it

First: the number of questions asked in the form as shown in your screenshot is pointless. No matter how many questions you enter it will give you the same prediction for a particular Kaplan percentage. So why did they include it? I was guessing that when we do more Kaplan questions our score prediction should go higher slightly or at least the 16+/- difference get narrowed as we take more questions. but that's not happening in that estimator.

Second: you cannot estimate your score for a percentage less than 50%, while 50% in Kaplan gives 211/88 USMLE prediction! So how about people who are getting 45% in Kaplan, they may still pass the USMLE right?

Hi steptaker,

I think they included the number of questions in that form so that if you enter less than 200 they'll tell you we can't estimate from less than 200 questions

As for the less than 50% prediction, I think it's wise to ask to aim for more than 50 so that you get higher scores in USMLE. This you motivate and also at the same time keep their reputation as all Kaplan students gets higher than 85 and also to keep you signed up and extend your qbank

It's very important to remember that we should not use Kaplan or any other score estimator before we reach the level of doing timed, random, 48 blocks.
because if you do subject or system specific blocks when just have finished that specific subject or system you score will be positively skewed and not a real representative of your real capacity
