Is the Medical career worth anything in the US?

I'm an IMG from south america, just received my step 1 score today, I passed but is not a very encouraging one so I started making plan B in case I don't match next year, which brought the question:

- Is the medical career worth anything in this country without a residency? Are there opportunities for doctors that pass all 3 steps but are unable to match?

And by "opportunity" I mean a real job that you could live on, not something to do while waiting for next match.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Please don't just post "No" :)

even though you are not happy with your first score, you have other 3 shots to do it (CK, CS, Step 3).. A good Step 1 score can help to open doors, but is not the only thing program directors are looking for. Work on your CV, there is also the pathway of clinical or basic science research (PhD, MPH, etc..) & it is a good job. If it is what you want Don't give up.

I'm certainly not giving up, I know there is still the other steps, but I also know that my possibilities for residency just got reduced, so I want to be prepared for the worst case scenario and not start looking at last minute.

Is the pathway of basic science research you mention something that I can do with my career? Or do I have to start over from start like a new career?
