Extending internship for electives-a good idea or not?

Hey guys. I'm an intern in India and I still haven't taken my Internship completion yet. I'm thinking of extending my internship til next year September which means my year of graduation would be April 2020. Does that mean I can be ECFMG certified only in 2020? The advantages of extending my internship is that I can apply for more electives and also since my year of graduation will be 2020, I'll be recent graduate! On the other side, I might have to face problems with the 'rural mandatory service'. Does this affect my application?

I started my MBBS in 2012. So my MBBS would be from 2012-2020. Would it look bad on my residency application? I was wondering if ya'll on forum could help me with this. I've been so confused.

Thanks in advance!

From what I have heard it doesn't affect much if you can properly substantiate as to why you had to extend.. if it was for USCE or research it's understandable... Having an unaccountable gap years are known to affect...
