Fm used to be img friendly but for the last couple of years it isn't anymore ,, and you can see that imgs where mostly matched to im according to nrmp statistics
Thanks for your reply sucess2014, but don't you need high scores for internal medicine? Isn't it true that you don't require high scores to get IVs in family medicine?
That also what I thought ,, but if you compare between im and fm programs via freida you'll find most fm ones require higher scores ,, that's c/z fm became more competitive in the last years and you can also notice that lots of amg choosing fm as well ,,, however that doesn't mean that there's no chance for imgs to match into fm c/z in the process of match you can't say there's and there's not with certainty
Why would AMGs want FM these days? Can you tell me the FM programs that you are referring to which requires high scores? I just checked freida and cant find any.
Amgs want fm because of the new changes in the healthcare system which are in favor of primary care physicians and regarding those programs I didn't kept them in my memory when I saw their criteria ,, that was about one month ago when I did my search in my favorite states , however you can check nrmp statistics for last year match
FM programs do not rely solely on scores to recruit residents. They value commitment. A low score candidate with FM directed CV, LORs, USCE and PS is looked upon more favorably than someone with high scores but other speciality (probably IM) directed CV and LORs. It comes as a back up plan and PDs hate that.
In general your can say those are the most IMG friendly, and beside positive or negative personal experience the resin is the the amount of position that they have nation wide (and by default unfilled positions) . But make no mistake all the specialties get more and more competitive to get into.
I would say spend your assigned money by applying to both fm and im especially if you were fresh graduate with stellar scores and try to choose programs that have residents of your medical school ( that mean they can give you an interview ) ,, you don't know ,, you may get matched to one of them
Internal Medicine is more friendly than Family Medicine, but you can apply for both the specialties. It will be based on the location you apply.
