Best Personal Statements Writing Services

Writing a unique personal statement is one of the milestones toward getting a match.

This task can be specially challenging for IMGs who might not have a great English language skills or even if they have they may still don't know what to write in a residency personal statement.

We have few guidelines to get you started here
http://www.usmle-forums.com/usmle-ar...statement.html

However, the purpose of this poll and thread is to rate the best residency personal statement writing companies that help candidates writing their PS in return for a fee.

Please reply with you own experience about any of the companies listed and do not vote if you haven't really used any one of them.

If you think there is another PS writer service provider that should be listed please post your reply and I'll it to the list

Editavenue have great writers and their prices are reasonable.
To me they are the best residency personal statement writers

Although accepted.com is very expensive but I think they are the best personal statement writers.

I highly recommend CVPersonalstatement Editors. Very professional and quick. They care about you. They try to understand who you are. Therefore, they are better able to help you compose a PS that captures your true essence/your strengths....worth every penny. :)

residencypersonalstatement.org

Please, don't waste your money with residencypersonalstatement.org. Don't make the same mistake I made. I will post more details later, because right now I am waiting to see if these people review the horrible PS they wrote for me. I am definitely going to use what I had written myself, since at least it is honest and makes sense. I just was seeking some "professional help" to make my PS better and fit the US standards. Unfortunately, they just cobbed together a bunch on unrelated statements into a non-coherent mess!

This is very useful poll

Yes, I have used them personally. Otherwise, I would not be recommending them to all of you . They do their best to incorporate your uniqueness into the PS....no generic stuff with them.

cvpersonalstatement edited my PS for internal medicine. They get back to me quickly in less than two days. Their price is reasonable for the service they provide. Their personnel are very professional and care for the applicants. In addition to editing the draft, they gave me useful advice regarding my CV. They did a great job and I highly recommend them.

Well since the-draft -editor got the most votes im gonna try it out and hope the people that actually voted for it are real and not fake accounts created to increase their score. I had submitted it right now with urgent delivery selected so according to their site i should get it back by 4:30 CT.

I will post on my results when i get it.

Dear Docnas,

I wanted to take a moment to respond to your post and express my hope that you were satisfied with the work we did on your personal statement. Like you, I also hope that the people who have voted for my company are real, since I genuinely believe we offer the best personal statement services out there and would not want our rating to be falsely inflated in any way.

To tell you a little more about my experience and why I believe my company is rated the highest of the companies on this forum, I first started editing medical residency personal statements for my friends when I was still working for UNESCO. These friends appreciated the unique, personal approach I took to each of their personal statements and recommended me to others. This led to my having edited a few dozen personal statements for medical residency before I met my wife, my experience with whom gave me invaluable insight into the medical residency application process.

Unlike the friends I had helped previously, my wife (this was before we were married) had almost everything going against her. She was an international medical graduate from Venezuela, with more than two years since she had graduated from medical school, no US clinical experience, almost two years since her last clinical experience (she had moved to the US to study for and pass the USMLE tests), and an F1 visa. However, in spite of this, I helped her write an outstanding personal statement, as well as the other components of her ERAS application, and she was able to obtain a PGY1 position in OB-GYN, which was her specialty.

Since that time, the editors who work for me and I have edited hundreds of personal statements every year, giving each one the same personal attention and expertise that I had devoted to and learned from my friends and wife. It is out of this experience that we have established ourselves as leaders in editing personal statements for medical residency, particularly for IMG applicants.

I hope this helps to provide a little more information about our qualifications for editing medical residency personal statements. If you or anyone else would like more information about our qualifications or the services we provide, please visit us at www.The-Draft-Editor.com or feel free to send me an email at [email protected].

StatementsofPurpose.com

Hello All,

I just wanted to make all of you out there of a scam website that offers personal statement writing services for seemingly cheap rates, but they are the worst in terms of professional courtesy. Not only did they write a really mediocre letter, but when i complained about the service, they replied in an extremely rude and offensive way. I have their e-mails saved in case anyone wanted to see their non-professionalism first hand.
Just beware of using that website. I think it's a one-man operated scam and isn't even a company.

I hope this helps somebody out there. Wish I'd known that before spending my hard earned money on them.

www.The-Draft_Editor.com is now www.DLAEditors.com

Dear All,

Because many of you are valued clients of David Lombardino & Associates editing and proofreading services, we wanted you to be among the first to know about some exciting changes we're making

First, we’ve changed our name to DLA Editors & Proofers. Our excellent editorial staff remains intact and I am still the owner and editor-in-chief; we just think the shorter name is easier to remember and more directly tells potential clients what it is we do.

Second, we’ve updated and improved our website. We do have a new URL, www.DLAEditors.com, but our current URL, www.the-draft-editor.com,will remain active for the foreseeable future. Both URLs will take you to the new site, which we think is much easier to use and navigate.

Our Advice for Personal Statements, which many of you have found helpful, is now located at www.dlaeditors.com/advice_for_personal_statements.html, though the link in my previous post will take you there as well.

What’s not changing is our commitment to clients like you, which has enabled our success and growth; we've edited over 20 million words—including over 900 personal statements for medical residency—for more than 1,000 clients over the last four years. Our exceptionally high standards of excellence and relentless dedication to service is what got us here—we're not about to change that now!

If you have a personal statement that needs the highest-quality editing and proofreading, I urge you to explore our new website and discover how we can help you realize the fullest potential for your project.

If you have any feedback, questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. We look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,
David Lombardino

CVPersonalStatement

Hello,
I have already written my PS and have already gotten it edited 2x from The Draft Editor. Do you think having CVPersonalStatement check my PS would be beneficial?

Thank you

Kourosh 09-17-2012 09:27 PM

I want to share my experience with CVPersonalStatement.com with other members of this forum: they provide the best service possible from my points of view: they edited my PS very well in term of using appropriate words and good comments about flow of PS and how to modify it . also they really impressed me because of their responsibility, I asked them to give my PS back as soon as possible since I wanted to submit it soon and they returned it back in the best shape late night at weekend!
bottom line I highly recommend them to all members.
good luck in the match!

DLA Editors & Proofers

Hello all,

I would like to share my experience with DLA Editors & Proofers. I think it can be really helpful for all those, like me, are indecisive about paying a substantial amount of money for their personal statement revision.

We all know about the importance of the Personal Statement, and how it plays a central role in our application. This is more so for those of us applying to Internal Medicine, where we have to prove through our experience and the way we convey them that we are reliable and good communicators.

After I reviewed some of the editing services stated in the poll above, I chose to purchase the services provided by DLA Editors for two reasons:
1) A good american friend pointed out to me that they were the only BBB accredited business that we could find; and that made it more reliable than other companies we looked at.
2) Secondly, I was persuaded about the personal approach offered by his founder, Mr. Lombardino.

After purchasing his services I received my edited version in 48hours. His team of editors changed several sentences to make it sound better, and fix several punctuation issues. But what it was more important to me, they pointed out two essential things I would've not seen otherwise.

First, they strongly suggested to add some information to a key incident (and essential in my PS) that I was describing and happened to me during my medical training.

Secondly, they pointed out a cliché I was writing about to justify a certain event in my life. I had read more than 30 or 40 "internal medicine" statements before doing mine, so is not like I was not aware of these clichés and common mistakes; and yet, I couldn't have seen these two problems on my statement and fix them without their help.

Finally, I would like to say that it is true that Mr. Lombardino, founder and CEO of this company, is very professional and diligent. He personally addressed my concerns and made sure I was satisfied with the final service I purchased.

I would highly recommend his editing services.

EditingMD

I just would like to share my experience with editingMD. I am applying for fellowship this year and has just finished my PS. I was very impressed with EditingMD's service. Their comments guided me in the right direction and quality of the content was exceptional. The great part is, they are medical people who know how to write. Especially, the one who worked with me has successfully matched into a prestigious program and he really knew what program directors are looking for. He gave me a lot of good advice. Highly recommend!

Y'all -

I was wondering what the general consensus of the regular forum members was on these services.
I notice a lot of posts from users with single post history praising various companies and I was wondering if the poll results are reliable?

I've written a PS and was hoping to get an honest review and critique.

I agree with you. We have limited budget and some websites require you to have first, second revision, not a complete version once you pay one time. Then does that also imply these editors are hiding some good points for second revision just for earning more money?

Myself 08-31-2013 10:27 AM

Does anyone know how long it takes for CVpersonalstatement.com to get back to you? It's been almost a week, and I didn't hear anything yet. I am wondering if I got myself into some scam.

d_wiqed 08-31-2013 05:14 PM

I feel that the best way to assess an editing service is to look at samples of their work. They will usually show in their website a sample of how a personal statement looked before they edited it and after they made changes to it.

When I read sample personal statements in some of these editing services' websites, I believe that many of what they write/edit are subpar. Sometimes, they just comment on this and that sentence or tell you to "go into more detail". These companies might not meet your expectations as they did not meet mine.

Some editing services I know especially the free ones from externship companies don't really edit your personal statement. I passed mine to an externship company and the guy there edited only two words. He just told me that it was a well-written PS. After I had my PS read by more reliable sources, I found out how wrong the content was (I didn't talk about me but more on about the professor that inspired me) and I had to overhaul and rewrite my PS. Be careful of these companies. They just use the "free CV and PS editing" to get students to avail of their services but the editing is inferior. I know a friend who had a similar experience in another externship company who offers free editing.

I also used to avail of the editing services of one of the popular companies in the poll above for my documents (not PS, but other ERAS documents). But after I realized that they edit only the grammar, just tell me to "add more detail", and in the end, just praise how strong my document was to make me feel satisfied, I stopped using their services.

To give a clearer picture, here is my experience in the aforementioned popular company: I passed a document to the company for editing and the guy keeps telling me to add more detail, so I ended up submitting it four or five times to him for further revisions. Finally, I asked a relative of mine take a look at my document. This is a relative who worked for ten years editing CVs for information technology applicants in Canada. After I saw how my relative edited my document to make it strong and stellar, I realized how poor the service I was getting and how I was wasting my money. I felt bad because I really trusted the company and I thought I was getting great service because he kept praising my document and kept telling me how outstanding my credentials are. I guess I fell for the flattery. Lol!!

So there it is. Fellow IMGs, let us be careful. All the best!

GamX 09-01-2013 09:36 AM

Personal statement writing companies are a waste of money.

No one knows you better than you. You are the best person that can write a 'Personal statement' for you.

There's nothing wrong in sourcing for help, in regards to editing. But that's what your friends and neighbors are for. Don't underestimate them.

jamesmdx1 09-16-2013 11:18 AM

do not use cs personal statements.com

I ordered a statement for a fellowship on Aug 20 from cspersonalstatements.com, this guy Carl said he would have it in 3-5 days, I got the run around from almost a month and no personal statement .
Now he said he was in an accident and cannot complete the statement .

DO NO USE

bushraomair 09-23-2013 01:21 PM

Worst personal statement

I paid to DLA editing for my personal statement, and my experience is horrible. They are just making IMG fool and getting money. No response if ask to change PS or if you do not like your PS edited. I will rate them "the worst". I will suggest future resident to get their PS edited by Nextgenedting company. They are the best.

jamesmdx1 09-23-2013 03:33 PM

I'm using residencypersonalstatements.net right now for my personal statement for my fellowship and so far they respond quickly, when I wasnt satisfied with the draft another writer was assigned, was edited and sent back for review ...they keep revising it until you are satisfied.

Best to avoid DLA

Thanks for a great chain, very useful information!
I used DLA per the recommendations of many of the earlier commentary and I appreciated the attentiveness that Mr. Lombardino gave to this chain. However, I obviously stopped reading the chain prematurely because I now see that others have experienced the same problem that i have, or possibly I was blinded by the early positive feedback.
Initially, I was impressed by their reasonable price and fast turnaround time as I was in a bit of a time crunch, however, what I did not realize was that it was a one-time edit and feedback ONLY. I attempted to email my editor for revision feedback and did not receive so much as an email back. Not only disrespectful to a client, but why would your employees/editors state that they could be contacted for further feedback and questions if that was not in fact the case!? I later went to the site only to realize that she likely did not respond because for a "second revision" (or feedback on the edited version) they charge the same full fee of $180!
Although a good preliminary edit, it was filled with a lot of empty guidance and recommendations. I am appalled at their business plan and lack of common courtesy. In my opinion, you'd be better off elsewhere

...and Mr. Lombardino, you're time would be better spent tending to your clients and not trolling the forums. If your service was as exceptional as you believe it to be, you would have no reason to worry about sites like these. Customer service and satisfaction speaks volumes about a company and its reputation. Your earlier reputation will quickly be dissolved if all of your clients prove to have these same experiences.

Dear KeyMeMD,

Thank you for sharing your experiences with my company. As the owner and editor in chief of DLA Editors & Proofers, I take great pride in the quality of our work and am continually on the look-out for ways to improve our services. I find that visiting this and other blogs is a helpful way for me to know what our clients think and how we can improve our services for the future.

Please allow me to apologize for the experience that you have had. You are absolutely right that this is not the service we guarantee, nor is it in line with the expectation I have of my editors. Personal Statement should be Personal

I think you don't need a professional services for your PS. http://www.usmle-forums.com/images/icons/icon1.gif
Of course it's important that people you trust read and correct your PS if necessary but you should be able to write your own statement.
There are so much resource available which must be enough to put you on the right path. They won't tell you what you should write but there are different tactics and prompts that you should be able to use.
:confused:You must check writing center of colleges like Perdue OWL or Berkeley College career center. Also many educational websites are providing resources. I came across to this resource recently which gives great tips about writing a PS http://www.gradschools.com/article-d...-statement-114

I used GURUFI to editing my PS based on my friend recommendation :):)
Brian turned my PS to an extraordinary one. I have used this website medfools.com to get my personal statement edited. Before doing that, I looked at all the options provided in this post on residency personal statement services and visited their sites to find out the kind of work they do as well as how much they charge. But, I was surprised to see that samples of the work they provided is good but not as great as the guy 'medfool' who edited my PS and that too for a very reasonable price.u can actually compare the kind of work these companies do by looking at the samples they provide before choosing one.It gives u a good idea of what sort of service u ll get for the money u spent.that's completely true for the abovementioned website.u can visit and check it out urself.great job for a great price!

yankeesfan15 06-09-2015 09:31 AM

I've used two different services in my past. I used essay edge and gurufi to look at two different essays. I will admit the essay I submitted to essayedge was not as strong, but I was not pleased with the edits, on a whole. They definitely corrected grammar, but made no other real edits to content. With Gurufi, my essay was transformed into a more vivid and cohesive piece of writing. My adviser wanted to keep it for future reference. I would go with gurufi, but only after you have made multiple edits yourself.

CVPersonalStatement

I have used cvpersonalstatement.com for both my residency and fellowship PS, and the service has kept its excellence. Highly recommended, especially for IMGs who want to write a more convincing statement in a believable simple language as opposed to a mix of jargons and superficially sophisticated sentences that do not match our style.

Writing a good personal statement is not an easy task if you do not have enough knowledge of English language. Hiring a good residency personal statement writer is must if you are not able to do it. Their write ups are very professional in language. So, i recommend to use a personal statement writer as per your need.

I looked at accepted.com and went with essaycritique.net instead. Editors all have Ph.D.s in English and come from schools with medical programs. My editor teaches at Emory. Best decision I ever made to go with these guys.

I tried "Residency Personal Statements" once, very disappointed.I paid more than $50 to edit my statement, but the editor just modified some words and no any suggestion on the content of my letter.Totally waste my money!!:mad:
