Happy new year everyone!

Jan 15 is around the corner. Most of us are (almost) done with interviews. So, I think it should be a good time to start discussing ROL. Let's keep things organized in a single thread.

Congrats to those who accepted prematch. You guys just sit back and enjoy. For the rest of us, let's enter this crazy game!!!

Best wishes for the Match... :plz::scared::plz:

Hi friends,

How should I rank?

1. Jackson Health System, Miami, Florida
2. Lincoln Medical Center, Bronx, Zoo York

Both are IM.

I have family in New York so I am considering ranking that one higher even though I know Jackson is meant to be better. Also, I am hoping that I get more invites before the end of January. For my career I only want to work in primary care so either will get me there.

Even if I had family in NYC, I wouldn't want to be at Lincoln. I spent my MS3 there and you'll see a lot, do a lot, but there's just too many social issues with patients that deter from the learning experience. But the bottom line is that most NYC programs do not compensate their residents well enough for the cost of living in the city, and as someone who lived there for a while, money goes a long way in New York. Plus the weather is inconvenient. So Jackson 100x over Lincoln.

From what I see on their respective websites, none of them seem to have an in-house cardiology fellowship program which is unfortunate.

I would try to find their fellowship match lists and see which one has the best track record for matching residents into cardiology or look at your interview notes and see if you asked on interview day for that information.

If you can't find that information my recommendation would be to rank the oldest and/or biggest programs first as at least they will have some sort of reputation and rank the smaller and/or newer programs lower.

Hi everyone,

Just deviating a little from the main topic. However, it is still a very relevant part of ranking.

Would you suggest sending a letter of intent to programs before ROLs are generated? If yes, when is it a good time to send such emails?

Thank you! Happy New Year! Good luck to us all.
Regards

Great IVs !
Personally, I would have probably ranked Uconn and SLR (maybe even Cook County) over UMass. I have no clue about the programs other than what's in their websites but UMass doesn't have a particularly great reputation in Mass.

Hey guys I'm wondering how to rank these IM programs:

1. Rutgers Newark
2. Univ of Buffalo
3. Yale-Waterbury
4. Univ of Mississippi

Any advice would really help! Thank you
If you don't care about weather and location, Buffalo could be your number 1. Stronger than Rutgers NJMS. If you do, then this list is fine as is.

Interested in future cardiology fellowship. Would love to hear your thoughts on how to rank my top 5 programs, and how the reputations of these differ.

1. Cincinnati - loved the program for many reasons, definitely wouldn't mind living in Cincinnati
2-4 - Temple, Maryland, VCU
5. Henry Ford - the program was good, but I feel "meh" about living in Detroit so I'm placing HFH at 5
6. Drexel
7. Rutgers (RWJ)

Doximity places Cincinnati as highest, is that true? How do the reputations of Temple, Maryland, VCU, and Henry Ford compare? Thank you!

Help me with my ROL, please!

Hello,
I'm having trouble ranking the following programs...

Indiana University
Loyola
U of Rochester/Strong
U Southern California
U of Illinois in Chicago

Although location does matter to me somewhat, I'm more interested in what you guys think of these programs regardless of their location. For fellowship I think I want to do Hemonc.

Thanks so much!

Briefly about me:
AMG from a state university
No redflags on my transcript; No AOA or GHS status; Some research experience but no publications; Nothing remarkable on my extracurriculars other than hobbies, really
Step1 241/ CK 245/ CS pass

Wow! Congrats on some seriously great invites!

I have a cousin who just went through the program at USC, he loved it and matched into a great academic program for cards! USC will get you into any fellowship in a great place and they treat their residents really well, they give like $50/day for food. They also have a reputation for diverse pathology and of course great weather, it is southern California!

1. USC
2. Indiana - probably the best overall on your list but Indianapolis is no LA
3. Loyola - Less competition for pathology in suburbs, UIC is up against Cook County, Rush, UChicago, and Northwestern/McGaw plus lower cost of living but Chicago is right there
4. UIC
5. Rochester - don't know too much about except that they match really well into Heme/Onc

Wish you the best and hope you get your top choice!

if you want to do GI or Cards, rank the programs with their own in house fellowships first, anyone who tells you anything else is foolish
