How many prelims is everyone ranking in order to feel comfortable ranking advanced programs highly? I was only able to make it to 3 prelim interviews, but thought they went pretty well.

I went to 6 prelim IVs, 5 prelim med and 1 prelim surg that has never filled pre-soap... so i would think worst case scenario is im pretty much guaranteed the surg prelim unless they really hated me to the point of not ranking me which I didn't get the impression of.

You should be fine with 3 prelim interviews, worst case scenario you should be able to SOAP somewhere, but I think it is highly unlikely. I got 4 and feeling pretty comfortable.

Default Visa question about Brown Univ

Hi All,
In my Brown IV, I missed asking if they do H1 Visa or they do J1 only.
Does any of you who interviewed at Brown know ?

Thanks.

The department of anesthesiology sponsors H1b.

I remember reading somewhere saying that they only accept J1. Your best bet is to email/call them and clarify

You are already an anesthesiologist consultant in the UK and are going to completely retrain in the US from the start?! That's some dedication... Did you consider something like practicing in Australia where you can get great lifestyle and similar salaries to the US but without the need to retrain and without the headache of working for the NHS?

I have been a consultant in the UK for 5 - 6 years now and have earned enough to maintain for few years. What attracted me to the US was their higher level of academic training and the way Anesthesiology was practiced in the US. Also, the level of complexity of the surgeries and the patients is much higher and will give me immense satisfaction. I hope this explains.

You can get a more accurate idea of the IMG friendly places by looking at the list of places we all interviewed at on previous pages
