Im not sure what your motivation for posting this was. If it was to encourage others who read your post, it would be great if you could give a little info into your background and how you managed to obtain this number of interviews and prematches. Otherwise... |

Guys...
for people going for match in 2016,2017...let me be v clear if u are not a permanent resident...take this step v carefully ........I am not trying to be scary here... but it really is a mess with out green card... .... .wat u can do... 1-take 250+ in both steps 2-make sure to take ur step 3 before sep 15. 3-do a lot of work, observerships, externships, research, volunteer work. 4-understand the cultural and social differences. Hope this helps. |

Congrats, bro!
Just a couple of questions, why did you accept a pre-match considering you seem to be a strong candidate perfectly able to match in more academic programs? When you stated something like "your resume should clearly show your area interest", but you applied to multiple specialties, so how come did you prepare an unique MyERAS resume that clearly suits 3 different specialties? About the favorable responses you got from your thank you letters: you can't rely on them. Please don't give the false impression to other members of the forum that having favorable post-interview communication is a guarantee of matching, because it isn't! At the same time, the lack of response doesn't mean at all you're doomed. This is something that varies from program to program. |

Thanks a lot for showing interest in my thread and unlike so many other members for such a great message full of satire.
I really appreciate that. First question.why did I accept the prematch?.. Didn't you yourself say, that a good response from PD is no gaurantee for a match?.. I don't know, how did you get the idea that I didn't select the academic program?.. I had three prematch offers..the one I selected is a university based program with very strong fellowships...and was no 2nd on my list of 23 interviews for path.. 2nd question...keys to my "unique resume" For Pathology: Did a post doctoral research in a huge university based setting for one and a half year publishing research papers in path department on lung cancer. Did observer ships in path here. Three very strong letters from path people here. One very strong letter after doing my internship in path in my home country. Taught histology in a medical school Was a biology school teacher thru out my medical school Was a clinical fellow in the department of pathology. For Internal Medicine; Did my rotations at Harvard and NYU ,in pulmonary and GI ,nephro as a student Got very strong letters from IM people When I was in my med school over the weekends to support my education,,I was working at an asthma clinic. Did my internship in internal medicine. Three months cardiology And was a medical officer for a year in a community hospital Research on lung cancer (so rotations in pulmonary, asthma clinic,IM internship and research) For FM: I included a Dean letter from my school and IM letters, As a medical student,my school had an affiliation with WHO,,so I was working with WhO for 9 months...in their mental health unit...strong bases for psych.. Put my rotations in cardiology, pulmonary and GI,and nephro as rotations. Work in a community hospital for 1 year. My rotations. In OB/ Gyn in NYU. Research My work in the flood and earth quake stricken areas. If you understand the FM here, then u wud know this is how the FM works here...jack of all trades, master of none... Your third question: I am giving the false impression? First of all,I didn't say getting an email back means you ll get a job...if I had believed that,y would I accept a prematch?..I don't understand... Secondly...I would like to say out loud...that people who do get a very nice email back from a Program Director,,,believe me PDs have so many other important things to do in life that you don't matter to them...so if they are taking some of their precious time out which makes them more than 200$ per hour...it's not a bad sign at all.. Match itself is a very unfair and petty matter,,,u never know what would happen... So it's a very positive sign n ray of Hope...if a PD writes plz consider our program as we wil rank you highly, My advice; Learn to trust in your capabilities.if I could do it...you can too... There would be people in every nook n corner telling you wat is not good out there...but believe me there are chances that you will find good .. Work on your resume.know your strengths n weaknesses. And work on them before you go for a match. Be pleasant,be positive,be patient.3 Ps... I received an other FM yesterday for FM from Texas.... So....yes don't lose hope.... Just keep going. |

hello, your resume sounds really awesome and you seem to know the system very well. Many congratulations on the prematch. I am doing my MD in anesthesiology in a reputed college in India and since I will be finishing it in march 2015, it was close to impossible for me to manage ERAS and NRMP this year. Hence I will be only applying in July 2015 for the 2016 match. Along your thread I read that you have advised against applying after 2015. I too have a read quite a bit about the 2015 doom for IMG. Now, since you are there could you throw light on this topic. Are the rumors true and what is the demand for IMG's there? My creds: step1:246, step 2ck:255, step2cs: passed, step 3:yet to take, No USCE, LOR's from INDIA, lot of volunteer work, 3 Publications and one very difficult thesis which is just completed.
