Hello everyone
I know this question might have been asked alot of times but I think this is an appropriate time to ask this question as most of you guys who applied this year have gotten almost all the interviews you could have grabbed. I ask this question as many people I believe would be in the same ship as I am. How many interviews were you able to grab being an IMG and having no permanent residence with scores in 240s in both steps and approx. three clinical electives and no research experience and contacts whatsoever. I know its the total application that counts but still with only these credentials and no other thing in application what are the approx. no of interviews one was able to get. I hope someone from this years match would be able to answer this question from all the aspiring candidates of next year!! |

According to ECFMG 2014 charting outcomes in the match
for VISA needing IMGS Step 1 241-250: 75% chance of matching in IM Step 2 CK 241-250: 66% chance of matching in IM Those are pretty good chances if you ask me. I can't post my personal experience since my particulars don't fit exactly the specifications you gave, but my feeling is that a Visa needing IMG with 240+ in both steps probably ended up with more than 6 ivs in IM. Probably you can land more interviews if you apply to peds, psych and FM. I believe you positioned your self well for next year's match and now the only thing remaining for you is to reap the benefits. Good luck |

Yea, I agree. 6-7 is what I think would be expected. But the only thing that I would add are the subtle things that according to me matter too.
1. Keep in contact with the programs. Try speaking to them sometime around July/Aug (when PC's have some breathing room and actually answer your questions), ask them general questions about the program and create a little relationship if possible. Cause when time comes to apply if they know who you are trust me that will be a big help. Keep in mind that most community programs that have 8-10 seats receive upwards of 4k applications. There is no way possible for them to review all good candidates even after applying all filters. Trust the system, but make sure you do your best to stand out. 2. Even after September. Keep trying to speak to programs you are interested in. Let them know what you have been up to, make sure you you reiterate your interest. It is going to be really hard to get in touch with someone during Match season. Some programs will say "We do not give updates and we do not take down AAMC ID numbers of interested candidates" BUT that doesn't apply to all programs. Some actually do take down the AAMC ID numbers and put you on an 'Interested Candidate' list. So don't get disheartened when you try calling places and either no one picks up or you get a negative response. KEEP AT IT. I scored about 3 interviews just by speaking to the PC who took down my AAMC ID number. 3. Your Address: If at all possible list your address on your ERAS profile in the state you are most interested in or are applying the most, or if not then at least in the same coast. This is important when it comes to filling slots that arise after candidates cancel. I know for a fact that PC's give priority to candidates that have a realistic chance of making it on a short notice. If I think of some other stuff I will add it here. I don't have VISA issues but my scores are not extremely great so I had to work hard this year. I got 11 interviews for IM and I am hoping I did enough to land a spot. Will find out on march 17th ![]()

I don't understand this question; someone pulls old outdated NRMP data and says 75 pct for 250 scores. The application is seen as a whole my friends it's how you position yourself. examples: 2 years ago I know someone with 250s who didn't match who then matched this last year. This year I know a guy with 240s and 1 year USCE with Visa who applied to 150 programs w 5 IV and matched last year he had no Visa and got 3 IVs only to not match.
It's all circumstantial. In Peds I know a girl who applied with only 1 US LOR, others home country, 2 months USCE and 220s no step 3 matched. Again circumstantial. Good luck- |
