Is dean's letter mandatory for IMG during Match?

NO, it is NOT.

The "dean's letter" or "MSPE" is a very detailed document that can only be filled out correctly if you went to medical school in the US. PD's know it and won't give much importance to an IMG MSPE.

BUT - when you build your application you do not want to have any "blank" section. For your MSPE, you can ask your medical school to write you a very simple letter that says you were a medical student at their school from "date" to "date'. Ask them to also mention any award(s) you could have got.

Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) replaced the Deanís Letter and acts a direct evaluation of your medical school performance. The MSPE document is a very important important piece of your overall residency application. The MSPE will give the residency program a more complete view of your time in medical school from the characteristics you have to the clinical rotations you completed.
