Fire Thread Regarding Statement of Need from India for J1 visa

Hello all,

I am confused about the statement of need from India as it says we need to have registration from the Medical Council of India, but I am registered with the State medical council. Do we really need to be registered with the MCI?

It seems difficult to register with MCI... I live in Canada, it's difficult to create an account and no one answers the call.

Anyone who has been through all this please help me out.

Thank you.

Hi,

If you have a state registration, you do not need another MCI registration. This was posted as a notice on their website.

Are a residency in Canada?

If you are a resident in Canada then you need to gain SON from Canada.

If not here is the information about gaining a SON from India http://164.100.158.44/showfile.php?lid=1504

I had written a detailed post of residency process including J1 visa process for Indian applicants two years back. Here is the link for it,

https://www.usmle-forums.com/img-res...y-process.html

Much of it regarding the J1 process still holds true. There might be a couple of updates however, so please clarify with your classmates as well.

Good luck!
