Hi Guys,
I am going to take USMLE, but before that, I want to know one thing... I have performed extremely poorly in my med school, I failed many times, I have taken 10 years+ to complete my MBBS from India.. all throughout my academics, I have just passed in all subjects with several attempts, ![]() ![]() I believe I can work hard and do something from now on, I really wish to get a residency and a PG in America.. Do you think I can appear for USMLE, if yes, will the people in America check my med school performance even if I performed well for all USMLE tests.. Do I have any chance of getting into a residency in America with my poor med school certificates..if yes Please guide and tell me what are the next important steps (Do's and Donts) I must make towards achieving a residency in America ......Please Somebody give me an answer |

I had the same situation like yours.
I was so worried. When I came to USA, I noticed that it's all about USMLE and they don't care about your med school performance. When you apply to residency they check your USMLE scores and there's something called MSPE (Medical School Performance Evaluation), this MSPE is not a must for IMGs, they only read it for AMGs. Americans do not believe and do not recognize our medical schools, they believe in their system only, so they don't care what you did in med school, they only look at your USMLE Scores. |

I will go to LA next week then I will go back to my country in the Middle East and come back for the match in September 2011. There are many many useful stuff about how to start prep for USMLE in this website, I suggest you start here http://www.usmle-forums.com/usmle-st...ended-threads/ |

Does a poor MSPE affect the chances of getting a clinical elective?? Actually I failed in anatomy and physiology on my first try but got through with good marks on my second turn. Thereafter my performance has stayed pretty decent but right now I'm in my final year, so can't say what that's gonna be like
![]() I've heard that for IMGs prior clinical experience in the US is considered invaluable when it comes to the residency matching process but then again they ask for medical school transcripts while applying for electives ![]() I haven't taken any of the USMLE steps yet. Was planning on taking it after graduation. So what do I do?? ![]() So how it turn out for you @heartbroken? Even a lil bit of advice would be great guys..really freaking out over this..thank you! ![]() |
