This interview season makes no sense at all. I am seeing people's scores and trying to figure out how people with worse scores than me got interviews where I didn't. Then i try to figure out how I got interviews at University hospitals where those same people got rejected.

I know two of my friends (I didn't get for myself) one needs Visa and other doesn't and both are non-carribean grads got IVs at Uconn. But I have personally seen most of the matched residents there are Carribean grads. Dont' know how exactly to interpret this information.

Hi, Im not currently applying ffor the match next year. I just wanted to ask to those applying this year -in case they know a similar case- whether or not is possible to get interviews for IM with a score of 222 on the step 1?
Is it true that my chances get higher with a good score on step 2 ck (>255)? I'm an IMG, yog 2011. Thank you. And good luck on the match. |

NNothing is certain until match day however, so don't be surprised if you don't get in. Last but not least, this is going to come in the form of a rant, so sorry about that RANT: PEOPLE forget about guessing if a place will rank you high or not. It simply does NOT MATTER. The way the match is designed you need to make your list in the order of YOUR PREFERENCE. Nothing else. Even if a place ranks you n1 that doesn't mean you have to do the same. If you can't get in to the upper hospitals in your list, you will get in to that place that ranked you high with a 100% certainty. Again make your list based on how you like each hospital. Don't think ranking a hospital higher just because they ranked you high is going to increase your chances of matching. That's just not the way it works. |

Most of the info is in the signature.
USCE - All observerships in 4 different hospitals, 2 weeks each. Did not apply to programs which specifically stated they don't consider observerships as USCE. No research or publications. Applied to 141 IM programs, 44 interview invites, attended 16, ranked all. I think the biggest reasons for that many invites is the citizenship status, USMLE scores and LORs. Good luck!

I'm a CA-3 about ready to graduate from Loyola's Anesthesiology program. Just thought I should share my experience and let others form their own opinions. We recently had a meeting with the ACGME committee due to violations in our duty hours, lack of educational time, and dangers to patient safety. Its likely the Loyola Anesthesiology program will be shut down or at least put on Probation.
I've had decent training over these last few years but essentially we are treated like CRNA's. The program directors Dr. Murray and Wiisanen even require us to do all the preop work for the CRNA's cases daily so they can go home early. Additionally we relieve the CRNA's from their cases in the early afternoon while we stay until 7-8 o'clock at night almost everyday. The worst part in my experience is that the duty hours are so intense they allow for almost zero educational time. Technically we do have lectures but they are not really protected forcing us to wake up early or sacrifice our free time in order to attend. That being said, the grueling hours leaves very little time to study for boards, resulting in marginal in-training exam scores and poor matching for fellowship. Lastly Loyola was recently bought by Trinity Heath. The new owners are pushing for more surgical volume, stretching our staff very thin. Many residents have had to work >100 hours a week in order to keep up. It has gotten so bad that the patients have been put at risk due to resident fatigue and lack of appropriate staffing. There have been several instances where there was not a resident available to respond to a code in a timely manner because the on call had to staff an extra case in the OR. Please consider your options and do your research when choosing a residency program. Last edited by LoyolaSenior; 02-19-2016 at 07:04 PM. |
