J1 visa issue

Hello guys.
Would like to know if one accepts a research job with J1 visa will the time in that area be discounted from the 7year total of advanced training the J1 visa states?

Also if later one accepts a medical residency who sponsors J1 visa or through ECFMG, do I have to clear the 2 year home requirement before entering the program?

Hope someone can help!

Yes you need to complete the 2 year home country requirement before again applying to US, and also you can have j-1 waiver instead of 2 years home country period.

So, a J1 research Visa is different from the ECFMG J1 Visa or the one used for Residency Training?
I thought the years done on research would be discounted from the 7 year that the J1 visa is suitable.

ECFMG is the sole sponsor of J-1 physicians in clinical training programs, many universities and research institutions in the United States are authorized to sponsor Exchange Visitors in the categories of student or research scholar.
