Hi folks
I am new here. I am an IMG but have US permanent resident status so no visa issues.
I have currently registered for the Step2 ck and have plans to take it in May 2011 hopefully if all goes well IA.
After that I will start the step1 prep.
So I was thinking that if I am able to get step1 done by November 2011 and then do CS by Dec 2011, can I still go for the 2012 match.
For that I will have to apply in september 2011 with just my step2ck score and nothing else in hand, and that does not make me a good candidate considering that I won't be certified by ECFMG by the time interview calls are sent.

1. What do you think can I get my ECFMG certificate before the 2012 match?

2. I know I can still apply with just the CK score and wait for any interview calls but do you think it is right or should I just not apply for 2012 match, but go for the 2013 match when IA I am certified my ECFMG?

3. If I do apply in the 2012 match with just my CK score do you think that I will be considered in the post match scramble (at that time I would have completed all the exams) , and is it worth the effort and money?

4. Or should I just complete all the exams by the end of 2011 and then find some research/observerships/externships or anything which could improve my CV and then apply in september '12 for the 2013 match?

I know that I have asked a lot of questions but I just wanted to get a little advice on it :)

Thanks a lot

An IMG applying with CK result only stands very small chances of being called for interviews.

You will have a little bit of a chance in the scramble which does not cost lots of money and I see no harm in doing it.

The best thing then is to fortify your CV with USCE and get strong US LoRs and get really ready for the 2013 match. Having said that, I suggest you take your time for the exams and don't rush, get very high scores in order to be very competitive.

Thanks a lot for the advice. i will try my best to get good scores first IA and then get some USCE and then apply for the 2013 match.
So about the 2012 scramble, you say it doesnt cost much. I have heard that even if you apply to just 1 program you are eligible for the scramble. How much is the fees for applying for the match or the scramble? And do you know of any people who were successful in getting through by just doing that :)

You don't pay for applying in the scramble but as you said, you need to at least have applied to one program in the main match. So the cost is very low.
As for your other question, and to be honest with you, I don't know any IMG who was able to get a position through the scramble but I know several AMGs.
