In your 5 pm appointment you have a 35 yo man who complains of generalized fatigue stating that "life sucks". 4 weeks ago his wife gave birth to a boy for which he has regrets. Since then his daily house chores have increased and he has little time to sleep. However, even though he is tired he wakes up at 6 am, and he cannot return back to sleep. He also reports that his trousers have become shaggy probably because "he is up and down and all around in the house". Recently, his older daughter got good grades at school but he seems indifferent. His wife has also been very active in the house and she also feels fatigued. You note that sometimes the pt misses the subject and you have to bring him "back on track" due to low attention span. Blood pressure is 125/82 mm Hg, HR: 83 and RR: 12/min. Neurological examination is intact. Cardiac examination is unremarkable. What is the most likely diagnosis?

a) Post-partum depression
b) Generalized anxiety disorder
c) Chronic fatigue syndrome
d) Hyperthyroidism
e) Normal behavior
f) Follie a deux or Shared psychosis

I would go with B. Anxiety disorder, although features are suggestive predominently of depression-secondary to his situation-new born baby/hard work really!

Correct answer is (A)

Correct answer is A. Men too can also suffer from post-partum depression, that's no joke!!!:)):)):))

From Wikipedia: Postpartum depression (PPD), also called postnatal depression, is a form of clinical depression which can affect women, and less frequently men, after childbirth. Studies report prevalence rates among women from 5% to 25%, but methodological differences among the studies make the actual prevalence rate unclear. Among men, in particular new fathers, the incidence of postpartum depression has been estimated to be between 1.2% and 25.5%

WOW I didn't know that. Thanks Tkourkou

Here are some facts
Depressed dads

Although postnatal depression (PND) is a condition normally associated with mums, it has being increasingly observed in dads in recent years, with up to one in 25 dads thought to be expected. Symptoms can be similar to those found in women, although it has been noted that men potentially can become more hostile in attitude as they react to their depressive state.
