48 Hours is the buzzword the define the type of pneumonia as follows:
- Any pneumonia developed after 48 hours of admission is Hospital Acquired (also called nosocomial).
- Any pneumonia developed in a patient who has been discharged from the hospital for more than 48 hours is Community Acquired.
- Any pneumonia developed after 48 hours of endotracheal intubation is Ventilator associated pneumonia.
