Hey guys

My step 1 is less than 3 weeks away from now, I've been preparing well
My UW average is 77% (finished, timed random)
I did UWSA 1 week ago and got 670 (252) according to UW
Today I did the NBME 7 (which I hear is easy) and got 560 (235)

I'm really demoralized now, I mean how is that even possible....I felt I did really well but got this score..and the problem is that no answers are given

I compared my score reports of UWSA1 and NBME 7....they show that I actually improved in many areas...still some weak areas..but overall improvement and more precision at the (high end performance).....

so what can I do now...what assessment should I take seriously? I really hope some of you who have the experience will read this and help

I did Form 13 also today....got 590 (242)...but did this one with expanded feedback
turned out I had 25 incorrect answers

so here's an insight

in UWSA 1 I had 44 incorrect answers in 184 questions (4 blocks,46 each)
estimated score : 252

in NMBE I had 25 incorrect out of 200 (4 blocks, 50 each)
estimated score: 242

obviously I did much better in NBME ... BUT the estimation is lower
I know they estimate based on equations and statistics...but I think both are unfair....UW definitely overestimates,, but also NBME underestimates....I mean if you get 175 out 200 correct....then say maybe you'll get 280 out of 322 (As questions not score)....I don't think this equals a score of 240s...

anyway thought I'd share this with you (if you haven't already noticed it)

reg nbme i dont think anything is unfair, its their scoring system , thats how they give score to every one . I mean whatever it is, like with 280 / 322 ques whether they call it 240 or 2400 or 340, not an issue coz everyone gets scored on a same scale... Well that's my opinion . Try some recent NBMEs like form -11,12,13. I heard they are more predictive and 12 is quite tough thou.

It would be really interesting how many questions you need to get correct to get a 240 and above.
I believe 85% and more?! or less? or more? any suggestions?

i got 580/ 236 in my UWSA1 today:toosad:

with this overshoot in your score in UWSA compared to NBME, does it mean i will barely score 221 in NBME? dunno really, enshalla i will take another NBME within a week and report back....my exam is in 12 days

i finished UW qbank with 78% cumulative performance and 86th percentile

wow.. awesome piece of information here.. just a question to the fellow colleagues who have been scoring in the later 70's doing uworld.. is it while doing it for the first time or second or any other subsequent passes? like if someone was scoring in the 60's in their first pass, if they were to repeat doing uworld and bring their scores up the second time, would it mean jack? this question would help figure out if uworld was to be taken as a study tool as most say or an actual predictor to how one would perform in the test.

i would say it is safe and recommended to study the explanations alone without looking at the questions stem early in your study. it won't affect your score much. for one simple reason, the idea of the UW solving is asessing your capability of Random recall and integration of info, so if u studied the explanations only it is gonna be ok.

you can't rely on my opinion since i didn't take the exam yet, but this is my advice that i will tell anyone and enshalla i might do it in CK ;D

Hey, dont compare the score reports of NBME and UWSa, you'll go crazy. Because the questions are so different,, you may know all the answers to one subject in one assessment and you may not know any answers for that subject in another one.

Take NBME 11,12 or 13. In my experience NBME 11 and 12 were the best preditors, although 12 is harder than 11, i had the same score in both.
NBME 13 is hard and believe it or not I also found NBME 7 hard, although people say its the easiest. I had 24/200wrong answers in FORM 13 and 22/200 wrong answers in form 7. Wheres in 11 and 12 i only had 15 wrong answers. And they predicted my score exactly!! (with a difference of one point only!)

I have heard that NBME 7 is probably no lobger a good predictor of your step 1 score.

anyway now I'm not giving a lot of "very high" expectations...I'm in my final review and will do Forms 11,12 and UWSA 2 .... and see what I get.... exam in 2 weeks

hey buddy! i took this u world self assessment test 2012. but i did it offline. one of my friends gave it to me. i got 216 questions right (out of 322) but i have no idea what the score is as it was offline. could u please give me a rough idea about this thing? like what could my score be roughly? or how many questions one is supposed to get right on step 1 to score 240 or above?

Heyy i really have no idea about this offline UWSA. The online version has only 200 questions so i really dont know how you can calculate a score from the offline thing. Just take an NBME.

Hey buddy! I have almost the same situation. I scored 257 on UWSA 1 and today I got 242 on NBME form 13. so what should i expect? I am a little demoralised! I have my exam on 29th of november. Any advice?

242 on NBME 13 is excellent.I would say Do NBME 12 close to your exam perhaps 1 week out.I did it today and it hadsome really goood questions.I was like. How was NBME 13?Did you do UW online?I still have UW to do.Any suggeations on how t improve.I got 224 on NBME 12,have 6weeks to exam.

NBME form 13 was really good but very different from UWSA 1. I think NBME tests some very basic concepts which might not be tested on UWSA and form 13 had some very weird questions, which I had no idea about. And yeah I did Uworld online. I still have 15 days of subscription left. Regarding improvement, I am myself trying to do that .You have 6 weeks, so do Uworld and FA. Keep revising the concepts, thats the key. Good luck
