Yes it helps.

First, when you do the elective, you will get LoRs from US physicians and that will tremendously boost your profile in ERAS when you apply.

Second, when you do the elective, you'll get to know how stuff are working here in the US health care system and that will make passing USMLE Step 2 CS far easier and also help you in answering ethical questions in USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2 CK.

Third, when you do the elective, you have the chance to make personal connections with attendings and residents in USA and this really help you out when you will be looking for interviews later on.
