Hello !

I have some.question relating to the registration and apllication procedures for the residence-programms.

I am a practising medical Dr. from Germany, but to get some more experiences I would rellay like to spend several years in the USA and make my residence-programm there. The problem is I am not anymore so young as the most other applicants , I am almost 36.
My first question is thus, can one in this age still make USMLE-Exams and if I manage to pass it succesfull, how difficlut is it then to finde a position in the Residency wenn I am 36 or 37?

Antoher important question that I would like to rais hier is Application-procedure.

Do I understand the application-procedure right? Is it really so, that the Matching occurs only one time per year? As I see, the Apllications to the Residence-Programms can be send beginning from July of the present year and the results of Matching will be announced in the March of the nex year, right?

The ERAS website opens in July, when is the deadline? When will it be closed?

I aks about it because I plan to pass my USMLE 1 in March or maybe in April 2016. After that I will need some time to prepare myself for USMLE 2. That will defenitely last for some months.

Can I send my Applications in July only with the results of USMLE 1 with the note that USMLE will be passed in for example September? What could be the lates deadline for this?

Sorry, I ask so many questions, but after seraching in the internen and reading so much info about that I still do not have clear picture / plan how to proceed further.

Thank you in advance!

Hi

To begin with, u can certainly do usmle at the age of 36. Age is no barrier.

About the application procedure, ERAS opens in june-july every year and applications are submitted 15th september onwards. Match results are out in march of the following year (Matching happens only once in a year).

U can apply with only step 1 score, but being an IMG, its recommended that u apply with step 1, CK and CS scores. Most of the programs require all step scores.

U should target a particular year for application and then plan ur exams accordingly. Point is that u should be ready with ur scores, ur medical school credential verification and everything else by september 15 of ur target year. Then u'll have a good chance.

Good luck
