Hypothyroidism causes hyperprolactinemia , as decrease Thyroid hormon causes .. Increase TRH , which have stimulatory effect on lactotrophs causes increase prolactin secretion ... causes s/s of hyperprolactinoma ..... In that Rx of hyperprolactinoma is thyroxin ....

I know that hypothyroidism in general can cause hyperprolactinemia. But, is there anything special about amiodarone induced hypothyroidism effect on prolactin?

See this:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3427795

I ask this because I want to know how to differentiate amiodarone induced hypothyroidism and other cause of hypothyroidism by reviewing the lab result. I am suspecting that 'prolactin' may be the key?

Thank you very much. Appreciated. :)
