i read the posts of people with high scores , and everybody says that they were annotating missing details into First Aid . but .. i read some kaplan books , and didnt annotate anything into first aid . i dont know what to annotate ? so , should i read both first aid and kaplan at the same time , to know what is missing in first aid ? i also wathced some videos without annotating . it is my first read . so confused , dont know what to annotate , is it high yield or low yield , how much to annotate and so on .

Hello there!

I can understand your situation. uword is the resource which you have to heavily annotate into your FA. no major worries if you didn't do till now with the resources you mentioned.

It was a confusing question for me too: what to annotate? The answer is that you have to understand in depth the concepts given in FA and whatever helps you better understand and remember that, annotate it. That is the supportive annotation. For new topics, you will gradually come to know what extra topics to annotate as you do more and more questions, more importantly from UW. You will see a pattern of information getting repeated in questions (nbme UW etc) and that is important to note.

It is hard to annotate things from Kaplan alone coz there is a lot of information. So, use your judgement initially. If you find something interesting which helps you understand and remember, jot it down. But refrain from mass annotation from Kaplan into FA initially. You may find later on some topic that was nicely explained on Kaplan which is high yield and you can go back and annotate that. The whole idea is to not mess up your FA with low yield information as this is the only book you would probably be laying your full emphasis on near your exam.

Good luck!

Welcome :)

Your plan about UW sounds fine. A lot of people do like that and I feel it helps to first know the basic step 1 info before going in for random Qs from UW. If you were to do UW with your first read, which some people do, it would be nice to follow it subjectwise. But for me it would have been too much to do the 1st read and UW: it's a lot of work at one time! But I highly recommend to be in touch with questions either from usmlerx or Kaplan qbank right along with your first read.
