Hey gang ... I know that this type of question will come up on the CK ... I have not seen an answer in my searches ....

I read if the spleen is removed that that they should have vaccinations against encapsulated organisms, including pneumococcal conjugate and/or polysaccharide, H influenzae type b conjugate, and meningococcal conjugate and/or polysaccharide vaccines two week prior to surgery ...

Plus antibiotics afterwards (I think 3-5 years)

My question ... Say if a 20 yo has had all their childhood vaccines (The above) and they need their spleen removed ... Do they still need these vaccines in addition or are they still good from their prior vaccines?
