It really breaks my heart as I write this but I just hope that someone atleast might benefit from this..

I appeared with my parents at the Islamabad embassy for my US visa and it was declined. The VO asked me to sit down while he interviewed my parents first. This is what they asked them :
why do you want to go to the US, how long willl you stay there, what do you do, prove your financial settlements, have you been to the US before...Then they called me and interviewed me alone. This is my conversation with the VO :

  1. Why do you want to go to the US? CS exam
  2. Have you been there before? Yes
  3. Why ? High school
  4. I believe you had a great experience! Do you talk to your friends often? Yes
  5. So what are your future plans? aiming for a residency
  6. What will you do when you come back to Pakistan? externship here and research
  7. I see you are not working for the past 6 months.WHY????!!!!!! I quit to study
  8. Really!!!!So you mean that you quit to study ??? For 6 months!!! ahhmmm..Yes, a lot of drs do that. USMLE is quite a competitive exam
  9. I have seen so many students working and studying for their steps?!! (sigh)
  10. You mentioned you know this person in the US.Who is that? How long have you known that person? (XYZ, for 20 years, family friend)
  11. Let me see your documents.
  12. Why the low usmle score? I was aiming for a higher score but well trying hard for my CK.
  13. What study materials do you use? KLN,uworld
  14. What residency will you aim for? Family medicine, the low score can suffice
  15. Where are your siblings? (xyz)
  16. How long have they been in those countries? (...... yrs.)
  17. Are you married? No
  18. Never married? Yup, never married.
  19. Give me a minute please.
  20. I have bad news maam..Sorry! I cannot determine at the moment that you have strong ties with your country and you might not return back from the US. (shocked!!!) Is there something I can do to get a visa as I will be reapplying.
  21. Change your circumstances.Good bye! (Tears!)
BLUNDERS I THINK I MADE AND PLEASE YOU DON'T DO IT:
* get an employment! Apply for the visa while you are working! Give them an assurity that you WILL return to your country.
* Mention that you will be living in a hotel rather than at someone's home.
* I don't know but maybe my "single" status would have been a negative factor too.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SUGGEST ME WHAT I SHOULD DO NOW!ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!! I am totally dishearted.Had my wedding in May and seems to be cancelled now.My fiance can't travel and if I don't travel either, it ends for us...I can't stop my tears.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE OUT THERE!

"LUCK" is the only sole factor I need now. It ALL depends on that..I am devastated..shattered...I see my doors closing on me.My career,my marriage is on stake..I will reapply in a month or so and will make an effort to get an employment letter but that doesn't guarantee me a visa though..I lived in the US for 3 years for my high school. I even had a visit visa earlier..PLEASE PLEASE KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS..I know the chances are minimal but are still there.God's plans..what can I say...

busterbee > They have kept mom and dad's passports and have said temporary refusal ..They have a 50/50 chance. I will Inshaa'Allah reapply within 2 months..Please make dua for me..atleast just one right now:sorry: I waited to get married to this particular person for 3 years...That's more important to me than my steps..:(
my heartily prayers for you..
and you are right..religion and relations are most important things in one's life...few people remember this....
just inbox me your email id...

Didnt you showe them your return ticket?
Didnt you had a hotel booking?
Why werent you employed?

American law states every visa petitioner is a possible imigrant until unless proven otherwise!
So you have to prove them!
You didnt had any attorney to talk with before going!
You made many mistakes bro

You are right..I am a stupid "woman":toosad: I didn't do any of the above. I just thought that my schooling of the US would be my plus point but obviously I was wrong! Is there something I can do now?! PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS..
Also let me know if any of ur siblings are citizens?
Always get a hotel booking and show them the receipt
Always have a return ticket in your hand showing them that you are willing to come back!
Employment only makes sure you will come back so show them a leave certificate by your employer!
Show them your financial statement here to make them agree that you have enough money here that you will come back!
If your fiance is us citizen ask him to apply ur imigration!
More info will let me know if i can add something!

And sorry for my gender identification skills on forum sites lol
No you are not a stupid woman!

Don't get disheartened! many people get rejected the first time and then when they apply again they get the visa. I can give you an example that just today my friend applied for the 2nd time at the same Islamabad embassy and this time he got the visa!

It was very unfortunate that they kept on focusing on your step1 scores. I just think it was bad luck.
Now you can bolster your application by doing what busterbee said on top:" now apply after a month..take your time...apply for a job some place n reapply without family....ALONE"

Insha Allah everything would get alright. Just don't lose hope. Everything happens for a reason. It's just that we don't know the reason right now. Our Creator has better plans for us and everything would work out soon IA.
Do not stop your CS prep or whatever you were studying!

Temporary refusal in case of visitor visa generally means security clearance/background check, so ur parents will most probably get the visa, though it may take a few weeks to months(depends on luck i guess).

As for u, there should be some change in ur profile before u apply again, otherwise there's a risk of another rejection. Useful changes would be a step 2CK score, plus evidence of employment in pakistan(get a letter from some hospital stating that u are an employee, and that u're being granted leave for say,15 days for the CS exam, after which u have to return to the job). Also get a travel itinerary from any travel agent showing that u have made an airline reservation during those days.
Other than that, it's more or less a matter of luck.

And do discuss with some reliable person/attorney whether u shud disclose ur marriage plans during ur interview the next time u apply. These things tend to be double-edged swords.
Best of luck!

Dear doc Mm,
plz check PM inbox and respond.
dnt worry, they r rejecting visas without any reason, mine has been rejected three times,i did step1(99/230) in january 2011 and applied for visa in may 2011 for CS they rejected my visa and asked me reapply after ck,i reapplied after CK(99/238) my visa was rejected again, they give me the reason that i dnt hv strong social ties in pakistan,i waa doing house job both of times i applied.someone suggested me to get a job kind of medical officer and reapply,i got job reapplied and again rejected with the same reason of poor social ties in pakistan.m right now working as medical officer and planning to reapply.if i got visa when i applied in may 2010 i would hv applied for residency, but unfortunately m sitting here, all my hard work seems useless to me.
if m unable to get visa within next month or so,i dnt know what will happen to me.
Doc mm,you and me r not only the ones facing these problems,i know alot of other colleagues, some seniors some juniors to me,whose visas r also being rejected.......
all of them were rejected with same reason,WEAK SOCIAL TIES IN PAKISTAN,and embassy gives no answer how to improve social ties......

just dnt worry keep on trying, reapply after moth or so....scores and job dnt matter for visa......foreign travel history matters for visa, marriage and children also matter to some extent....
try to keep urself busy so tht u dnt get depressed
take care...........

You all are right! I can't lose hope..As it says.."Mayoosi is Kufr". I know Allah has plans for me, it's just that I am "Human" and it hurts..seriously hurts!Infact, it's VERY PAINFUL!

I see a lot of people are facing these problems and I seriously was unaware.I was too naive to think that I will "definitely" get a visa because of my good travel history and bla bla but well I guess have to reapply again with much more preparation.

Bunny> None of my family members are US citizens, all are Pakistani passport holders. My brother works in Australia as a family physician and my sister is in Uk,she's a dr too and is married. (I guess the VO also thought that my entire family is settling abroad due to the circumstances in our country). My fiance is not a US citizen, he himself has visa issues. He is on business visa and therefore, cannot travel to Pakistan to get married to me. I had to go there by all means to get married to him.My entire plans for May were finalized but well "Allah ki marzi"...

Usmle guy> I would really appreciate if you could ask your (ALhamdulillah) lucky friend why he was rejected the first time and what did he exactly do to improve his profile for the second time..PLS i request you to find this out for me so that I can also prepare accordingly..Also ask him after how much time did he reapply.

Abdul Wahab> I am with you in this. MY father will be talking to a US immigration attorney and whatever he recommends for me, I WILL POST HERE so that you or anyone else who is in the same situation could benefit.

Also guys, let me know if you have any information regarding the "DV lottery" as I have applied for it as well..

I never told them about my marriage. And I seriously hope that my parents are granted a visa. Inshaa'Allah! Will discuss this with an attorney ASAP.
Does the embassy knows your fiance is in USA on buisness visa and you are planning to get married there?
Oki dats nyc dont tell them about it
And plan to have a single story and dont change it not a single word ! Coz they are very curious to listen to changed answers in interviews and reject again!
