Although I'm well-informed when it comes to the Steps, I almost have no information about the match. I recently took Step 1 exam, but I learned that there's a specific season each year for matching.

My questions are:

  1. When is the deadline for applying to the match? And do I have to have cleared all steps before I can apply?
  2. If I missed the deadline in a given year, all I can do is wait till next year?
Sorry about these very basic questions , but I thought there's no better place to ask at than this forum.

Thank you.

Well the Schedule for the match process is as follows:

  1. The application registration begins on August 15
  2. institution/programme registration begins on september 1
  3. November 30th is the application registration deadline
  4. After this deadline, applicants can register by paying an additional $50 late registration fee until February 23, 2011, when registration closes. Once you miss this deadline you have to wait for next year. But the earlier you apply the better. Applying late only minimize your chances of getting a match.
There are other deadlines including rank order list etc. which yo can view from the following link:

Hope this helps!

Thanks all ..

But what about Step 2 CS. If I take it, say in July or August 2011, can I still apply in the 2012 Match? But what about the result that does not appear before 3-4 months after taking the exam?

you mean 2012 match :)

if it is possible take the cs before ck so that the results didnt bother you

i heard that it is best to register when u are fully ECFMG certified that will strength your application

Its always best to be ECFMG certified while applying and even better to take step 3 if you are looking for H! visa. Although with a great step 1 score youl still have a shot. Though programme directors an idea that ne one performing well in step 1 will do well in step 2 as well but they always prefer both steps taken!

Thanks for your reply.

Could you please provide me with more information about the visas? How can being ECFMG certified affect the type of visa I can get? And what kind of visa is recommended? :notsure:
