Can I ask the patient to repeat?

If the patient said something that I did not understand can ask him/her to repeat?
Is that polite
Is that take away points

Please advise

Yea, of course you can ask

just say "Am sorry, can you repeat that for me please"

But remember, if you keep asking them to repeat to much then they'd have an impression that your language or listening skills are weak

Don't say "I beg your pardon"

A British friend of mine was asking them "I beg your pardon" and all of them did not know what she was saying and everybody was upset :)

But she passed ...

A phrase that worked out to me was "I lost the last part... say that again please" If he/she got upset I emphasized "double checking is very important to find out what is going on with you" Remember: they are actor, so you should be a better one!!! Good luck

I love your last sentence! Totally! I shall keep that in my mind when I take the CS. :D
