Giving you the picture

Pediatrics is not a highly competitive specialty with IMGs matching mean step 1 score is 214 in the year 2009.

There are several other factors that play role in your chance of getting residency.

Your chances can be increased by the following:

Being fresh graduate (less than 3 years since graduation)
High Step 2 Score
Pediatric research
Pediatric US letters of recommendations
US Pediatric clinical experience (such as observership or externship)
Connections in US with pediatric faculty

If you don't have the points mentioned above, I think your chances in the match are not high.

Thanks Sabio for the information. I'm thinking that for example if I made it to Step 2 CS and CK and let's say apply for matching in remote states or cities like those demands are not as competitive, would it be best? because as an IMG i really don;t mind where to get matched now. before i used to think of getting matched to states like NY, connecticut, boston, california but now with the grade that I have, am thinking like maybe in other states, the demands for peds are higher because not as many people are trying to get matched with them.

what is your say about that? Thanks so much again. :)

Yes of course you have higher chances in "low profile" programs such as those in inner city New York, where the working environment and the social life are not that attractive and therefore AMGs and IMGs with good scores tend to steer away from them.
