I have heard that the pattern of questions in step1 have been changing, and unlike previous years where doing a lot of questions helped, now it is not of much help to increase the score since they are the are not really from the text like FA. So how does one go about these questions?

the pattern which is changed:-
1) now 44 questions in each block (previously 46)
so overall 308 ques and not 322

2) more emphasis on behavioral science, on patient doctor relationship. also some questions from safety science.

rest is same, as far as FA is concerned, its still the no.1 review book.

people are prepering from FA,pathoma, uworld and then they give nbme to see where they stand and then if they are staisfied, they take the real deal.

score varies from person to person becz of difference in stamina, rapid reasoning, knowledge and diagnostic skills

ofcourse doing many questions will help,
ofcourse FA will help u, 40-50% of usmle step1 ques content comes from FA. rest of 10-20% can be jacked up by uworld. and rest of 30-40% comes from ur own concepts n educated guesses.

the questions on the real usmle step1 are way more lengthy and difficult than the nbme and uworld. but still uworld is still the closest one when it comes to similarity.

one interesting fact is that recents exams taker have said that usmle step1 exam was too difficult and it was nothing like nbme but when the scores come, they say tht their scores were exactly the same as their nbme 17 or their nbme avg.

so we dont need to panic, emphasis on FA, not just read it but memorize it as much as u can, try to recall wht u have memorized from it, also do pathoma, kaplan Behavioral science and conard 100 ethical question. also DIT video lectures can be helpful. when u r done with them then attempt quesBanks like usmle rx,kaplan, uworld meanwhile also give online nbme, uwsa, kaplan sim test to see where u stand.

Best of luck
