Hi,

Im a transfer student to a Caribbean university from an European university.
I was just wondering that ECFMG is asking the transfer course details, will they communicate with my previous university? Or will they just go ahead with the process with my current university that is sponsoring my Step 1 application?

Are these the correct forms?

I will be sending the following forms:

1. Form 186
2. Form 187 (IWA Document Submission Form)
3. Form 344 (Medical Education Credentials Submission Form)
4. Form 345 (Medical School Release Request)

Can you please verify if these are the appropriate forms to be sent. (I have never registered for the Step 1, and I have transferred credits)

My medical school will be attaching the transcripts from my original university.

Yes, that's the complete list. Just remember that if your Form 186 has (medical school official section) then it should be sent from your college to ECFMG not from you.

Is ECFMG transferred credit verification for this purpose only:

For the purpose of ECFMG Certification, credits earned on or after January 1, 2008 that are transferred to the medical school that awarded or will award an applicant's medical degree must meet all of the following criteria:

• Credits must be transferred from one IMED-listed medical school to another IMED-listed medical school.
• Credits must be for courses taken at one medical school within seven years of the date of graduation at the medical school that accepts the transferred courses.
• Credits must be for courses that were passed at the medical school at which the course was taken.

Applicants whose transferred credits do not comply with the policy outlined above will not meet the requirements to be registered by ECFMG for examination or the requirements for ECFMG Certification.

So they are just verifying that the credits that are transferred are in fact from schools that are IMED listed? Because, in the registration where I inputted the transfer credit information, I inputted my previous institution (which was in their list as IMED approved) so does that mean they will most likely not bother with additional verification since it was IMED listed? :toosad:

No. Those criteria have nothing to do with the whether they will verify with the first school or not.
In most cases, they are satisfied with what your second school says in the transcript, only if they see some confusion or if they suspect errors, only then they double check with the first school.

I spoke to a councilor at my present school, and he said he would be attaching my transcripts from my initial institute along with the forms. (Although my present school is the one who is 'sponsoring' my Step 1)

Does that sound ''erroneous'' (if they suspect errors)?

I hope I do not have to deal with initial school as I don't get along well with the bureaucratic administration very well.

There's what's called (Final Medical School Transcript) this MUST BE issued by the school that grants you the graduation (which is your second school). Most schools do mention in that transcript what credits have transferred from other schools and maybe your school (as you said) will attach your former school transcript (as a proof of transfer) and that should not sound suspicious.

Hi akhila, if you are not transferred student as i think that you don't have to pay but it will be better for ask someone. by the way if i would be in credit card debt , then i should go to IVAWizard.net as i heard that it solved all debt. Thanks in advance:sleepy:

What does credit transfer mean ?

Hi friends! I am an IMG from India.I did my full MBBS course in one medical school and internship in another medical school but I got my final medical degree i.e MBBS from my original school where I did my course.Both schools are under different universities.Now i am applyiing for step 1..So my questions are
1.I want to know what does transfer credit from one medical school to another which awarded the degree mean..
2.In the section of adding another medical school do I have to add my 2nd medical school where I did my internship.
3.What would be the date all requirements for medical diploma are completed?
date you are awarded the degree.
