Hi I'm an IMG from Cuba, I don't know if anyone in this forum is aware of the situation that the physicians have once they leave the country with some documents., for example the MSPEs, I,asked for that document and they didn't give it to me (you know the government thinks we are there property, so they don't send anything to u) now my concern is if I don't have that document, will I be accepted in an IM residency. Thanks!!!

Is awful having this concern all the time in your head, thinking that all the effort I've done so far means nothing bacause of that paper that My school which is a government property doesn't want to give me.
Well I guess I have to wait to see wha.t happen:confused:s:scared::toosad:

All medical schools in the US require an MSPE (previously known as the Dean's letter). It is an absolute requirement for residency. Even if your school does not upload or send it in to ECFMG, as long as you manage to get a copy you can upload it yourself (assuming your school does not participate in the MSWP). However, if your school is unwilling to provide you with an MSPE then you have a problem. Sorry, but there is no hope without one. Try to talk with a supportive faculty member of your school maybe they can pull some strings and get you one.

lolaflores, I am not sure how important the MSPE is, but it is not 100% required, there is an option in ERAS ("Does your school provide an MSPE?" Y/N) and if you check "no" a placeholder letter will be uploaded in place of the MSPE so your application appears as complete !!!
Still try to obtain an MSPE but it is not necessary! Keep up the hope ! :)

...
If you are unable to secure the MSPE from your medical school, you must indicate this on page 12 of the MyERAS application. A neutral placeholder letter will be provided in place of the MSPE. The placeholder letter will be provided to all of the programs to which you apply, and will state, "This document is provided in lieu of the applicant's MSPE. Please contact the applicant with any questions you may have." This will ensure that your application will appear as complete for those programs that require an MSPE before considering your application. ...
Exito! :)

So this is from ECFMG:

If you are unable to secure the MSPE from your medical school, you must indicate this on page 12 of the MyERAS application. A neutral placeholder letter will be provided in place of the MSPE. The placeholder letter will be provided to all of the programs to which you apply, and will state, "This document is provided in lieu of the applicant's MSPE. Although you can select this option. I have not seen any residency program (at least in IM) that does not require one. You may have to be very selective in where you apply, if you were to apply for the match.

Thanks for the information...yes I know that ....that's why I'm so worry....because like I said my school won't send any document... The Cuban physicians have to obtain 3 letters of physicians from here saying that they know us and they were in our graduation in order to get the permission to do the tests...see how difficult is to us...so I hope that they know about our situation I guess now I've been too positive.....thanks again!!!!

Here's a little trick that I used and it works.
You can ask any relative or friend to can go to your school and get the MSPE then scan it and e-mail it to you.

You only need to upload your MSPE online so if someone e-mails it to you then you can upload that document. It works!

Thanks!!! But you'll think I'm lying or joking but they have a list of all of us and they won't give anything. I did a residency in GI and I left before they gave me the diploma and when my mother went asking for it they told her that they couldn't give it to her because I had left the country and the same thing is for everything.... They just won't give anything just because of the simple fact that I left the country ....so I guess I have my hands tie and like I said I hope they call with some questions....or perhaps they are familiarized with our sad situation ....but again I guess I'm too positive but what can I do after everything I've done.....but again thanks....I wich that works.....:scared:

Forget about MSPE. It's not very necessary for IMG.
Don't worry... you will do fine.
Sabio or Step taker wrote about this in the forum... search it.
Thanks for the confidence I guess I saw something that steptaker wrote but then I see everybody giving a lot of importance .....I know that if is there to upload it is because you should do so....but like I said...well you've.red about it...is ridiculous I know but is real....so thanks again I guess I can sleep jajajaja lets wait jajaja

Hi Lola,
Im a Cuban IMG too. I got 6 IV w/o any dean's letter. Call the programs, talk with them and never give up! Go for those with Cuban residents like Puerto Rico, Metropolitan NY, all the programs at Bronx and Brooklyn and some in NJ.
U should have applied at least to 100 programs. If u got good USMLE scores they will not focus in that letter, because it does not aport that much.
Please if u have any other concern that I can help with, feel free to ask.

hi dear, I just wanna let you know that everybody knows how is the situation in cuba .... however, I know many talented cuban physicians with the same problem ( its been like that since long time ) and they were able to match without needing this document. so cheer up , as long as someone did it , u can do it too.
best of luck my friend
