Here's the difference

MD means medical doctor, means a medical school graduate and eligible for residency training and board certification.

Phd is an academic degree which you get it via academic research and publication.

A Phd usually appointed in University as a teacher or paritipates in research and development.

An MD usually goes for clinical jobs.

Of course people can have both MD and Phd.
