So in residency do we get salary and if so how much per month and is it really enough for two people (doctor and his wife)?

I know it differs between different specialties and different cities but let's take the least one

Thanks

Salary may or may not be enough

Yes, you will be paid a salary.

Usually it's enough for you and your spouse. But you have children you may get into hardships.

The minimum salary is $40,000 per year and the maximum salary is $58,000 per year. That's for the first year of residency, usually it gets higher with the subsequent years.

You'll usually get some benefits also, like paid leave, health insurance, transportation allowances, subsidized accommodations, ...etc

As you pointed out, it varies significantly between programs and cities. For example if you live New York City you'll be killed by very high expenses and your salary may not be enough to survive but on the other end if you live in a rural/suburban area in Idaho you'll even save some money from that salary.

first of all why is it in year prospective

they give us the salary monthly right?

so you says that living in NY is the highest expanses over all cities if so how much would be enough there so we can set it as a highest bar to prepare my self and by the way what to do if the salary isn't enough as you says?

--The irony of the US financial system is that they report salaries in yearly income for full-time employees such as residents and in hourly income for part-time employees such as Starbucks sales persons even though you get your paycheck on a monthly or weekly basis! You have to get used to it.

--To set the highest bar, you need to pick the highest salary and live in a cheapest place.

--If your salary isn't enough you have two options: either borrow money or cut spending like by moving to cheaper neigborhood and commute daily to your hospital or by selling your car and using the public transportation ...etc

How did you calculate it as $3333 per month? the tax is usually higher than what you calculated.

Anyway. Nobody can give you an estimate of how much you need per month. Becuase it depends on what life style you will follow. Are you going to buy a car, get an iPhone, eat in restaurants, subscribe to a gym, ...etc
There are couples who can live with $1500 per month and others who can't live without $6000 per month.
