Do we need to watch Kaplan CK Videos?

Hi guys,

I know that reading Kaplan Step 2 CK Notes is important of the CK Prep.

I am wondering if we need to watch the videos too or reading the notes will be enough..

There's another separate vote for Kaplan USMLE Step 1 Videos here

Have you done Step 1?

If you have taken Step 1 before you don't need to watch the videos, they don't add anything extra to the notes in the videos, just some pathophysiology if at all and if you finished Step 1 you don't need to waste your time with it.

I've watched a few of them already and felt they are a good review.

The only ones out there for Download are the 2001 ones though, many people date them differently but they are 2001.

Conrad Fischer is one of the lecturers :D

I am watching them these days. They are so interesting lectures. Every disease is in case scenario and in simple way. I think it so important to watch them

Different for different subjects

I think that if one has already taken he/she doesn't need to watch them for all subjects as it wastes time.

In my mind they may only prove efficient for obs/gyne and psychiatry provided that one could not understand the notes for these subjects without the help of videos...

I think they are good for when you are tired of reading and still want to review, its a taped lecture. I know some do not like lecture but at times that hour or so spent concepts are verbalized you did not truly understand and now do.;)
I voted NO, this is why:

I've seen pretty much all the videos and here are some quick facts about them:

1. They won't give you as much info as the Kaplan notes. This is especially true for OBS/GYN, Surgery, Emergency and Psychiatry

2. They tend to be repetitive in several aspects. Very much in certain occasions, making your progression slow.

3. For this last reason, I won't recommend them if you are running out of time. Only to review certain aspects. If you have to choose, go for IM from Conrad F. These are easy to watch and he will give you good tips for the exam.

4. Some users have proposed using them along with MTB book, while not reading Kaplan notes at all. This could be an option too.

I've taken the boards and I have this to add

1. the videos are current and Right on Target
2. If you are out of medical school more then 5 years then not watching these can be a big mistake
3. The wasted time subjects are pointed out and the most common wrong answers

I read something and sometimes the points do not come across as when someone tells you what is important

Explaining Diagrams

I think a huge factor that plays role here is whether you have taken Step 1 exam before the CK or not.

If you have taken Step 1, you'll really find the videos useless because most of the talk you already know from your Step 1 knowledge.

If you have not taken Step 1 before, then perhaps the videos will have some use.

Step 2 CK is unlike Step 1, is not about concepts and tricks, it's much about knowledge and memorization of facts and therefore the notes are more than enough.

not required !!

i wouldnt bother on surgery videos. they are nothing but a repeat of the cases that are given in the back of our book..
study the first 70 pages, adn go through the cases if your are reading it for the first time..
videos are must for Derma, Inf Diseases, Psych (for examples)..

good luck..

Hi Priya1,
For surgery, you just need to read the book, the videos are not essential because all material are self explanatory. I watched them though because I need several repetition through different modality to maximize my learning.

kaplan videos

I want to revive this thread.

hi did any exam takers or those sitting for the exam watch kaplan videos for step 2 ck?

if yes, was it useful?
if no, why?

thanks in advance.:D
i personally think videos are not so helpful..but medicine lectures to some point are useful

i advise u to find a good study partner and revise the kaplan notes again and again with him or her....if u can do so then think no need to waste time for videos
