Drugs causing hypothyroidism

Lately there has been a number of threads talking about the use of drugs and thyroid diseases.

Here's a list of drugs that may cause hypothyroidism:

  • Lithium
  • Aspirin
  • Amiodarone
  • Interferones
  • Sulfonamides
  • Iodine overdose
  • Antihyperthyroid medication over treatment
  • Imatinib and Sunitinib
  • Antidepressants
  • Phenytoin and Carbamazepine

Lithium is a drug that inhibit T4 to T3 conversion
