The ECFMG was founded in 1957. It deals with all non-US and non-Canadian medical graduates from anywhere in the world who want to enter an ACGME accredited residency programs in USA. The acronym stands for Educational Committee for Foreign Medical Graduates.

However, the name "foreign" seems to be insulting in some aspects. It alienates IMGs and makes them look like strangers. While, in fact, many American citizens, even US born, have obtained their medical degrees overseas! So how come they are called foreign!

I suggest to rename it to "Educational Committee for International Medical Graduates" i.e ECIMG to better reflects current modern standards and avoid the misunderstanding.

What do you think about this!
