If you've completed all your steps i.e. 1 and CK and CS

You can then get ECFMG certified rite?

So in order to get your certificate?
how's that work?
do you have to pay a fee, send in an application for it?
or do they automatically send it to you,

and for people in the match, it says you can be certified by Rank order deadline so if u go into next years match let's say and you're waiting for a result of one of the tests, but the result comes by the time of the rank order deadline, so would u be able to stay in the match, even though u physically don't have the ECFMG certificate.. meaning u have all the tests complete to be certified, by the rank order deadline, so you wont be w/drawn from the match rite?

Explaining the ECFMG certificate in details

ECFMG Certificate will be issued to you automatically without paying any fees when you pass USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2 CK, and USMLE Step 2 CS, AND your medical schools credentials are verified by the ECFMG.

The moment you get the email that you passed the last exam (any one of them) the ECFMG will put a red note in your OASIS account saying that they'll issue you an ECFMG certificate within 2 weeks.

You'll then get that physical ECFMG certificate in the mail (if you have a US address).

When you apply to residency you have to also apply to the NRMP. The NRMP will verify your ECFMG status with the ECFMG directly and they'll post your status in your NRMP account. This process takes another 2 weeks.

Moreover, there's a question in ERAS asking you if your are ECFMG certified or not, if you say YES, you have to then tell them the exact issue date of your ECFMG certificate which you don't know until you get the physical ECFMG certificate.

So in order to be ECFMG verified before ranking you need to put these processing times in your mind.

Another thing that I'd like to bring your attention to is that many IMG friendly residency programs will not even send you an interview if you are not ECFMG certified so you'll be losing chances if you wait until February to get certified.

All of what I have said has been thoroughly discussed here;

I follow what you're saying,

Im asking cause, I actually had quite a few interviews and im not ecfmg certified as of yet, cause im still waiting for my cs result which will be out in feb,
so considering i clear my CS,
i wont be w/drawn from the match right? and the program will be able to rank me, even if i physically don't have my certificate?
thats what im confused about to be honest

Am skeptical about it

Before one of the members post here http://www.usmle-forums.com/residency-match-forum/5957-ecfmg-certified-time-ranking.html I was thinking that you should be verified by the NRMP which happens after the ECFMG certifies you which happens when you get the physical certificate.

However, after reading that post from that member, he says that the rules says that passing the steps is enough to make you eligible for ranking.

However, to be honest with you I am still skeptical about it. I still believe you have to be certified by the time of ranking which is February 23rd @ 9:00 PM Eastern Time.

Official versus Personal Experiences

Hmm now im more confused
The official information from the NRMP is available online and here's the link http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/special_part/ind_app/verif_new.html

In that page they mentioned that you have to pass the exams. They did not mention that you have to be ECFMG certified. However, in the personal experiences of my friends during these weeks, they noticed that their NRMP status was not marked as verified until about 2-3 weeks after they got their ECFMG certificate (not after passing the last test).

You DON'T have to be certified by feb 23rd. You need to have passed the exams only. I personally asked ECFMG staff twice and a couple of PDs during my ivs and all agreed on that.
A PD of a very big uni prog even told me that the only thing he cares about is that I get certified before july 1st :p
