Hello friends.

Can someone explain me Elek test, I know is for documentation of toxin production by Corynebacterium diphtheriae, but there's something else I should learn.????? Probably yes ummmm.

Contributions of knowledge are welcome :)):)):))

its to detect if the diptheroid can make the exotoxin. There is a strip of anti toxin and three strips of sample to be tested, toxin sample and i think control , basically its a cooler ag-ab reaction that is readily visible.

finally had to go look this up, but remember this for all phage encoded toxins:

C - cholera antigen
O - o antigen of salmonella
B - Botulinum Toxin
E - Erythrogenic toxins of strep
D - Diptheria
S - Shiga toxin

When people share a bed, someone gets pregnant!!

Should'nt it be Shiga like toxin. Thanks
