Hi. My score is 214 (480) in UWSA 1. I need a 99. My exam is in ten days. I have consistently been performing poorly in Biochem and Immuno. Could any one please suggest what i could do now? Pushing the date away is not an option. Thanks. Any suggestions are welcome.

So far, i have finished all of UWorld once with a cumulative score of 55%. Reading mostly FA for the last month.
Have read through Kaplan Physio and Biochem. Heard Goljan audios, read very little of Goljan Rapid REview (but i'm able to score above average marks in Path so it's not too much of an issue) Watch about 12 hrs of Anat tapes (Kaplan) Have stuck to FA Pharmac mostly, though i have read through all of Kaplan Pharmac once (which doesn't seem to be enough, because i dont feel very confident about Pharmac)
WHat can i do in the next ten days to get those last 30 marks. I know i sound ridiculous when compared to people who are working so hard to pass. But i am an IMG, it really isnt easy to get any where of consequence without a 99.
Do please help.

I hope you do better with your UWSA2 tomorrow. If you can't push your date back, then what can you do, right? Just go over the things you've gotten wrong, do questions, review first aid...

Good luck!

224. Got very very anxious in the last block, was almost ready to puke. The individual block scores were 31, 28, 33, 25. What should i realistically expect in the exam?

It's going to cost me $252 to postpone the dat now that i'm less than 4 business days away from it. (I realised that just before the last block and panicked to no end, not that it should be an excuse for performing badly)

All this anxiousness; it's too much I can feel it. You need to calm down and accept reality. Your UW cumulative is very low for a 99. Your latest UWSA shows the same. You also need to know that it's not imperative that you get a 99; come on, not everyone can get this score! A score of 95 or more is great. So I think you should take the exam as scheduled unless you really insist; then you will have to delay.

Btw, NBME 7 is more accurate than UWSAs.

how much of a difference can ten days make at this point you think? i'll put in the 300$ (252 + 50 for UW renewal) but i need to understand if it is actually possible to get from 224 to say a 245 in ten days.

Hey, it'll be alright. Worrying is not going to help you right now.

You cannot both get a perfect score and take the test in two days - accept that and move on to thinking clearly. Do you need a 99? Can you not postpone?

Why do you need a 99? Just being a physician is "of consequence" - you don't need to be the richest doctor ever. Even primary care docs in the US enjoy an incredibly good standard of living. Are you afraid of disappointing your parents, or your spouse, or that nobody will respect you or love you? Anyone would be proud to say "my son is a doctor", "my daughter is a physician", "my husband is a physician". I am going to do as well as I can on Step 1, but you know what? I'm still going to do my residency in Family Medicine. Am I a loser? No. I just know what I want to do. Maybe your goals are different from mine - that's okay, what are they? Specifically? And why? Just step back and think about your goals and their relative importance.

If you are still convinced that you absolutely must have the best score ever, then you will have to postpone your exam. Can you really not postpone? Can you not afford the money? Are you embarrassed? Is there some extrinsic time limit?

Whatever your answers to all these questions, driving yourself crazy is not going to help. The calmer you are, the better you will sleep the night before the exam and the better you will do on the test.

Well i intend to apply to Psychiatry, but i'd like to get into a good university program, not for the money, because i am extremely interested in the kind of research that goes on in some of these places. And my seniors tell me taht the good places need a 99 even if it's psychiatry.

Ten days because I need to take step 2 ck and step 2 cs before May 14 (so i can get my certification in july) and apply on sept 1. then take step 3 sometime in october, and somewhere within this time frame also get myself an observership/research position and get the necessary lors.

It sounds insane and disorganised but that is how i planned it out last year when it seemed i had a lot of time. but i'm an old IMG plus a few unforseen things meant that my scores were just getting better in the time they had to.

Ah, I see. In any case, step 1 scores are not the one deciding criterion, as you can see from the NRMP statistics:

There are plenty of other factors, like LOR's, English ability, personality etc.

Best of luck in your journey!
