It's not mandatory

there's nothing mandatory or compulsory

However, it's much better if you do it in a teaching hospital and they will value it much more than if you do it in a private clinic.

if one is able to acquire practice in a private clinic, would it be legal to call it an externship, due to law prohibiting the touching of patients or is that state selective?

California & some other states do not allow it but you can do it in other states & you have to pay for liability insurance

I did fully insured externship, does that mean that when I apply to programs in California I should not mention that I did them? Will my application b refused for doing so?
Also are paid externship providing companies disliked by PD?
